Educational Summary:
-BS and MS in Mechanical Engineering from Union College with special focus Materials Science and Biology/Neuroscience
-PhD in Materials Science from the University of Connecticut

I was awarded a State of Connecticut High Tech Scholarship to study the changes in structure and properties of an aluminum-nickel alloy when the material is bombarded with radiation. Part of my work involved writing a computer model to simulate the changes we observed in the lab.

-MA in Teaching, Physics from Union Graduate College (now Clarkson University)
-New York State Professional Certification in Physics

Work Experience Summary:
-Design Engineer, Kodak Medical Products Division
-Science Teacher at the Charlton School in Burnt Hills, NY, a small private school for at-risk teen girls

For 22 years I taught math and science (Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Earth Science, Biology, Physical Science and whatever else our school needed) to students in grades 8 - 12. Our students were those who had difficulty finding success in the traditional classroom. I learned to adapt to a wide variety of students: some very weak academically, others who were capable but oppositional, and more commonly, students who were very capable but had emotional or psychological struggles that posed obstacles to their success. I learned to reach every student where they were and find a path forward for them based on their needs and abilities.

-Assistant Professor of Engineering, SUNY Adirondack, a community college in upstate NY

I taught Physics (Calculus-Based), Physics Laboratory, Statics, Dynamics, Mechanics of Materials, Engineering Design, Introduction to Engineering and Introductory Algebra.

I always strive to meet students where they are, understand how they learn and forge a path to their destination. I’ve worked successfully with hundreds of students having different backgrounds and abilities and I’m looking forward to using all I’ve learned to help you achieve your goals.

My formal training in Uechi-Ryu (pronounced WAY-CHEE) began in 1980 under the instruction of Master Ihor Rymaruk of Amsterdam, NY. Since then I have taught in multiple locations including Columbia University, the University of Connecticut and SUNY Adirondack. I currently hold the rank of Sandan, 3rd degree black belt. Uechi-Ryu is primarily practiced as an exceptionally effective self-defense system and to maintain health. The practical, joint-friendly movements make the practice of Uechi-Ryu available to people of a very wide range of abilities and ages.
