“Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all.” – Aristotle. It is my fundamental belief that education is more than just opening a book and completing questions 1-5 without their heart in it. The heart of education exists in our ability to truly care about each stakeholder and function as a team to improve as a collective whole. I believe I possess the qualities of someone who can positively move students forward.
As a graduate of the College of Education at UNR, I developed effective teaching strategies. These skills have given me the opportunity to excel in teaching. By receiving my Master’s Degree, I have also been able to use leadership skills as the English Department Leader. Receiving my ESL Endorsement has also allowed me to enhance struggling readers in the classroom. Currently, I am implementing a Pre- A.P. Program at Pine Middle School. Having experienced teaching middle school and high school has allowed me to have a broader scope on the overall spectrum of student’s success, as well as different challenges that occur at different grade levels. I have also taken many professional development courses and work well with all colleagues. I have worked with many students that are credit deficient and feel that this is my strong point, as I make strong connections with students and we create a culture of motivation.
As the English Department Leader at a Nevada High School, I was responsible for guiding the department’s curriculum to meet the demands of the Common Core and creating common assessments, which are aligned to the Common Core. In September of 2009, I was given the opportunity to produce and streamline the High School’s Yearbook. In this position, I built a well-established system for reporting and photography in the Yearbook by working closely with the Yearbook representative and students who were at multiple levels of writing techniques. I am constantly revamping and changing my teaching strategies to better my practices in the classroom. Currently, I am obtaining my National Board Certification in English and my students have been implementing Socratic Seminars seamlessly using claims, evidence, and opinions.
Melding my experiences in Yearbook, 6th-8th Grade English, 9th-12th Grade English, as well as teaching A.P. English Language courses at the high school level, I have learned the importance of teaching, to address the many challenges we face in education today. I consider myself a highly motivated individual and a problem solver with a positive attitude and creative eye.
Overall, I work from the heart and genuinely want students to succeed. High School English Teacher with prior experience teaching Middle School and College English Courses in Washoe County School District.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
