Hello My name is Nathan G.
I have lived in the Reno/ Sparks area for 19 years. After years of working for local business I decided to come back to education. I am currently attending TMCC, and plan to attend UNR next fall majoring in English with an emphasis on writing. I have worked as a writing tutor at the TMCC learning center for a little over a year, and have had a ton of experiences that have helped mold me into the fine writing tutor I am today. Last semester I began giving supplemental instruction workshops, and was elected lead supplemental instruction tutor this semester. These workshops go over a variety of subjects including; how to create a working thesis, critical reading strategies, how to write purposeful paragraphs, and proving a thesis using evidence. In addition to this, I have participated in a program called Summer Bridge, which helps new college students assimilate into college life, and am a founding member, and vice president, of a book club. In my time spent at the TMCC writing center, I have honed my craft, and have become a stand out tutor. I look forward to working with any student.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
