I love working with people to help them learn and grow. I believe learning, in any subject, is vital to positive attitudes and stronger life skills. Having been a missionary with an International Drama Ministry (Covenant Players) for 35 years, acting, directing, teaching, set design and decoration, use and understanding of the English language and grammar are strong skills I enjoy sharing. Drama helps the participant develop his/her communication skills in a very "hands on" manner.
The English language, while not easy to master, is one of the most beautiful languages in the world. It has, I believe, the greatest number of words to use in communication, and I want to see everyone learn better communication skills by better understanding their own mother tongue. I can work with anyone who has learned to read, and can help the process of better reading, as well. English language, reading, spelling, grammar usage and pronunciation are all skills I can support and aid. I love working with people to help them learn and grow. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
For 36 years, I was a missionary with Covenant Players, an International Christian Drama ministry, where, along with acting, directing, and teaching drama, I was also required many times to lead Bible Studies, Discipleship Classes, and leadership workshops for our participants. I enjoy study, research and helping people new and different sides to issues and ideas.
In the 36 years of a drama ministry, I have been "in front of people" that entire time. I have taught and facilitated workshops in public presentations - not specifically content, but method, skills, tools to use, and how to work through and with the fear that comes from standing up in front of people. Love to help people overcome shyness in this area, even if they never intend to use it professionally. Helps in all areas of life.
I have been doing basic sewing since I was about 10, am also a quilter, and I love it. I am able to teach basic techniques and stitches, how to use a machine, and use a pattern. I also love to create new things, so am also able to "problem solve" when it comes to making something work.
I've spent 36 years studying, performing, directing and designing sets for theater productions with an International Touring Theater Company, Covenant Players. Along the way through that 36 years, I became a teacher, drama coach, and an award winning teaching-director. The art of Stage Craft is a detailed science, and takes constant work and diligent study.
