Experienced College Professor with PhD in Philosophy
I hold a PhD in philosophy from Boston College and a BA from Missouri State University. For more than five years, I have designed and taught philosophy courses at universities around the world. My specialization is history of philosophy (ancient, modern, contemporary continental), but no matter the area or author, I have experience helping students express themselves and write cogent essays in philosophy.
I am happy to help students in introductory courses on any philosophical topic, or to...

A Dream Come True
Kevin Marren for me has been a dream come true. When I decided two years ago that I wanted an experienced PhD professor to guide me in reading (and understanding!) the great books of modern European philosophy, I had no idea how I would find such a teacher unless I enrolled in a university graduate program, especially since I live outside the U.S. Then some eight months ago I stumbled upon Wyzant and found Kevin. Since then, I have looked forward to my lessons with Kevin as one of the high points of my week. Kevin has skillfully accompanied me through the major (and very difficult) texts from Descartes to Kant, challenging me to think critically and motivating me to spend many hours reading and studying on my own. Kevin is a wonderful teacher. He combines a patient and engaging teaching style, able to adapt flexibly to whatever level the student is at with the material at hand, with an impressive depth and breadth of knowledge of the full scope of Western thought from the Ancient Greeks to the present day. And he’s also a really great person to spend an on-line hour with every week! I look forward in the coming year to continuing my journey with Kevin as he guides me through my encounters with the great philosophers of the 19th and 20th centuries. I highly recommend Kevin to any student interested in Philosophy and Western Intellectual History in general.
Charlie, 55 lessons with KevinTutor responded:Thank you for your kind words, Charlie! It has been my pleasure throughout to work with such a talented and committed student of philosophy. Our meetings over the past year have been a highlight for me as well, no doubt due to your alacrity and love for the subject. Again, you have my immense gratitude, and I too am looking forward to the new year working with you - Kant and beyond!

Excellent tutor!
We are thrilled to have found Dr. D.! He tutored my student with a writing assignment simplifying the logical reasoning process to help my kid structure the work. He didn't stop there; he also checked for the understanding of sources. Dr. D. is kind, thorough, and knowledgeable. At the end of the session, you will receive an outline of what they covered during their session. It is an incredible tool to keep my kid focus on the task at hand! Thank you for all your help, Dr. D.! My student, is looking forward to another session with you!

Very knowledgeable and doesn't mind repeating to make sure you understand.
I like his manner and how patient he is in explaining. Philosophy is confusing to me so I really appreciate how he takes the time to make sure I have a complete understanding. Highly recommend him for tutoring.

Helpful and very patient tutor
He gave me a clear view of what marginalization means and the difference between marginalization and discrimination with examples. He's very friendly and very patient. Answers every question patiently and with sincerity. Definitely would recommend him.

Absolutely the Best Professor
Kevin has taught me more about philosophy than any of my professors! His friendly and involved style of teaching fits me really well. When I have a problem, he is always available. I first contacted him for a crash course on Plato and Aristotle to prepare for my final. Then, he helped me excel in my class on Hegel and worked with me to improve my grade from a B on the midterm essay to an A for the final. I was so happy! Now we are working together on getting my paper published.

Knowledgeable and Interesting
Very nice and knowledgeable. Thank you. Kevin introduced many knowledge and methods on philosophy, which is challenging yet interesting for me. I was inspired to learn more about philosophy. In addition, Kevin helped to give me more suggestions on how to develop myself in this field. Great experience.
