My specialization is history of philosophy (ancient, modern, contemporary continental), but no matter the area or author, I have experience helping students express themselves and write cogent essays in philosophy.

I am happy to help students in introductory courses on any philosophical topic, or to serve as a writing coach at any level. Additionally, I can offer specialized assistance in a variety of topic areas for upper-division and graduate level courses, especially: existentialism and phenomenology, philosophy of science, ancient Greek thought, informal logic, and ethics.

Literature,

Literature

I completed my PhD at Boston College, where I developed a competency in the existentialist tradition and in the analysis of existentialist literature. My approach to literature involves staying close to the text, so please contact me with requests for help with specific texts to ensure I have time to read and reread the material you're studying. Across numerous semesters, I have taught the works of philosophers and literary figures such as Mark Twain, Jean Paul Sartre, Albert Camus, Dostoyevsky, and my others. Literature is always of a philosophical significance, and I tend to approach the great works in this light. However, philosophy is almost always of a literary significance as well; and so I often advise students to think through critical projects in terms of related philosophical ideas. As a tutor, I am always happy to provide a philosophical background to students, and to help them draw connections to produce excellent and insightful essays in the philosophical field of critical theory and literary criticism.

For more than five years, I have designed and taught graduate and undergraduate level philosophy courses at international universities. I am happy to help students write essays in philosophy, master difficult concepts, or to study for tests. My area of specialization is the history of philosophy (ancient, modern, contemporary continental). I also have teaching and research experience in great books, phenomenology, existentialism, Kant, Descartes, Aristotle, Plato, medieval philosophy, renaissance humanism, philosophy of mind, philosophy of science, critical thinking, and ethics.

I completed my PhD in Philosophy at Boston College, which is a Jesuit program that emphasizes the study of theology. I have taught the philosophical elements of Christian Theology numerous semesters, covering theologians and religious philosophers from late antiquity to the renaissance. I would be best equipped to help students studying Augustine, Boethius, Averroes, Aquinas, and Scotus, among others. I would also be happy to discuss renaissance philosophers. My further knowledge of the philosophy of Aristotle also provides a background for the understanding of the European theological tradition. Please feel free to contact me especially if your study of theology is related to early to medieval Christian philosophy, or if you need help with the historical and philosophical background.

Excellent tutor!

We are thrilled to have found Dr. D.! He tutored my student with a writing assignment simplifying the logical reasoning process to help my kid structure the work. He didn't stop there; he also checked for the understanding of sources. Dr. D. is kind, thorough, and knowledgeable. At the end of the session, you will receive an outline of what they covered during their session. It is an incredible tool to keep my kid focus on the task at hand! Thank you for all your help, Dr. D.! My student, is looking forward to another session with you!

Very knowledgeable and doesn't mind repeating to make sure you understand.

I like his manner and how patient he is in explaining. Philosophy is confusing to me so I really appreciate how he takes the time to make sure I have a complete understanding. Highly recommend him for tutoring.

Helpful and very patient tutor

He gave me a clear view of what marginalization means and the difference between marginalization and discrimination with examples. He's very friendly and very patient. Answers every question patiently and with sincerity. Definitely would recommend him.

Absolutely the Best Professor

Kevin has taught me more about philosophy than any of my professors! His friendly and involved style of teaching fits me really well. When I have a problem, he is always available. I first contacted him for a crash course on Plato and Aristotle to prepare for my final. Then, he helped me excel in my class on Hegel and worked with me to improve my grade from a B on the midterm essay to an A for the final. I was so happy! Now we are working together on getting my paper published.
