Oxford University (History)
The College of William and Mary (Master's)
I'm an Oxford University History graduate from London, England. I moved to the Reno area a few months ago having spent the previous 14 months in Virginia for graduate school. In the past 5 years I have tutored a range of people, varying from ages 8 to 18. I am comfortable teaching humanities subjects at any level, and have tutored elementary, middle and high-school-level students at History, Classics, English, Politics and Religious Studies. I have also taught college history classes.
Having spent so much of the past few years studying, I have developed a passion for the humanities and I find sharing that passion with students greatly rewarding. I do not exclusively cater to already advanced students; helping a student who might be struggling with some aspect of a class is just as important. I have a background in sports coaching, having coached both pre-teens and college students rugby. I find that this helps me to strike a balance in terms of being demanding of and in encouraging students. I aim to help students see the lessons as more than a chore than needs to be done.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I have previously tutored middle-school, high-school and undergraduate students in the subject.
I've taught English to high-school aged students in the UK.

I have spent the last 5 months working in politics full-time, first as a congressional researcher and subsequently as a campaigner in Virginia and now Nevada. My 2 history degrees (undergrad Oxford University, Master's William and Mary) both focused heavily on political history. The 3 theses that I did were all on some form of American politics. I also took several public policy classes during my Masters degree, focusing in particular on state-level political.
I have worked as a political consultant in Nevada. Previously, I worked in the US Congress. Part of my Masters in History at William and Mary was political science classes; I took 2 of them. Finally, I got an A in my A-Level (the equivalent of an SAT) in Politics in the United Kingdom.
