I have previously taught Video Production at a Washoe County School District high school for two years. I am certified in Computer Applications. I use Adobe Premiere for Video Production.

Business

I am recently retired from the Washoe County School District. I was in the Business/Career-Tech Department for most of my time with the district. One of the classes I taught for some time was called "The Company". The students in this class had to create a business from the ground up. They had to complete a business plan and then implement that plan. They had to do all phases of their business.

Career Development

Most recently I taught Health Science with students who were on a Pre/Pre-Med path as it was High School. These students were required to do an extensive research project on the Medical Career of their choice.

Public Speaking

I have been a teacher for 13 years in which I have had to speak in front of many people. I also taught how to present when covering Powerpoint Presentations. I know how to project my voice and keep my audience's attention so as not to bore them to death. I also took Public Speaking in college and received an A. Before teaching I also was a Customer Service trainer. I have worked with the public for 30 years.

Hello, I am a certified teacher in Computer Applications for the State of Nevada. I am organized and teach organizational skills as I believe it is huge when it comes to understanding what is expected from a teacher and in the classroom. I believe in active participation such as flash cards and making models, etc. to help the student learn. Good note-taking is a must as well as giving oneself the time to review. If the student isn't just learning the material for the first time the day before the test, that is beneficial. Time-management and proper preparation are very important in helping the learner to feel less-stressed.

Nutrition

Hello, I am a Nevada State Certified teacher in Health Education. I have been recently teaching Health Science Education in the Washoe County School District at the high school level. I just retired. I cover Nutrition extensively as I love teaching Nutrition. I have a definite passion for it.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

I am not certified in Special Education, but I have worked extensively with students in this population. I have been a high school teacher for 15+ years, and during this time I have had many students with varying disabilities included in my classroom. I also worked in Carson City as an Adaptive Physical Education teacher in which I worked extensively with students with all levels of disabilities, and all age groups. I worked in the elementary, middle school and high schools. I had a caseload at each school in the district. My office was in the District's Special Ed department, and I worked extensively with the OTs and PTs out of that office. I was also required to go to all IEPs and learned about this process very well. I also did a practicum for about 16 weeks at the School here in Reno that is Special Needs only. These experiences helped me tremendously in my high school experience, and if Sped teachers and Administrators had their choice for me to be the Special Needs student's teacher, they would put them in my class as opposed to other general ed teachers as they knew I had an ability to work well with Special Need students. I could get letters of recommendation if you would like. I believe that all students can learn. I am also a Certified Health teacher, and I have studied extensively about all sorts or disabilities. I know the characteristics of many of the disabilities and what types of care needs to be taken. I have had students from severe Mental Retardation to Autism to Aspbergers, as well as milder disabilities such as ADD or those who have a lower ability in math or reading, and also those who have severe emotional disorders and even had a student with Schizophrenia. I have also had students who don't have mental deficiencies but just had major physical disabilities. I thought about going back to school to get certified in Special Ed, but couldn't work it out timewise with my family and teaching job.
