Eastman School of Music
My name is Phil H. and I am 56 years old. I have taught music all my life and find it to be my joy in this short life. Music is indeed an infinite vocation. I will come to your home at your desired time and make music come alive for you. I am completely versed in theory, composition, calligraphy, conducting and in all styles and genres. I teach all the instruments of a standard orchestra as well as many that are NOT in an orchestra.
I start teaching by finding out how much a student may know or want to know and what aspirations a student might have. I can use books to help convey ideas or merely sheets of paper and little tricks to help the learner understand. My largest aspiration is for the learner to understand.
In Voice production I start with breathing as it is 80% of quality singing.
In Theory I may start with a small quiz to illustrate the learner's ability.
In Guitar I would start with easy chords or note recognition.
The art of music, like many other disciplines, is a lifelong vocation. There are many qualities of a musician that can be learned and mastered. It is my charge to equip my students with the tools that they will need to make their mark on music world.
