About Kurt

Bio

I am able to listen and understand the needs of each individual student, both from the parent's perspective and from the student's. I am able to quickly develop rapport and allay fears so that time is maximized and the student is able to progress as quickly as possible. I have taught all grades, K-6, with an emphasis on 4,5,6. I have conducted intervention programs for struggling students as well as enrichment programs for gifted and talented students.

I am well versed in the Cornell Note Taking process and find it very helpful for struggling students. A brief summary of the process: After the notes have been taken, the student writes a brief summary in the bottom five to seven lines of the page. This helps to increase understanding of the topic. When studying for either a test or quiz, the student has a concise but detailed and relevant record of previous classes. When reviewing the material, the student can cover up the note-taking (right) column to answer the questions/keywords in the key word or cue (left) column. The student is encouraged to reflect on the material and review the notes regularly.
