I have been a K-8 teacher for 10 years. I have taught all subjects to students of all abilities. I am strongest in math and science. I try to use a lot of hands-on experience when teaching, but use several different approaches to help students of different learning styles.
Due to some recent job changes, my weekday schedule isn't very open, so if weekends work best for you, I'm your teacher :-) I am avalible Fridays after 4pm through Sunday until 5pm.

It is always easy to set up times for tutoring and she is very patient with my teen who is impatient always.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have worked with students of all abilities and issues. Many of my students have had ADHA and have had issues stayinf focused and on task. This is what often causes them to stuggle in their studies and in the classroom as the teacher trys to teach 30 plus students. This is much easier to work with one-on-one since there are less distractions and the ability to take breaks as needed for movement, refocusing, etc. I have worked with medicated and non-medicated students with much success.
I am currently working one-on-one with a low functioning, autistic student where I am perfecting my skills with modifying assignments and using varied approaches to teaching skills.
I have been a K-8 teacher for 7 years. I have taught 2 years of 5th grade, 1 year of 2nd grade, 2 years of 7th and 8th grade science and 2 years of K-6 ESL which focuses on Language arts. I feel very competent teaching all subjects taught in the K-6 curriculum i.e. Language Arts, Math, Social Studies and Science.
I was a K-6 ESL teacher for 4.5 years. I have also taught ESL summer-school in West Sacramento, California for 3 years and have had SIOP and GLAD training which focuses on teaching students who have English as their second language.
The understanding of letters and their sounds. Phonics is important for understanding how to sound out words. I have many strategies for teaching students letter recognition and sounds. I am currently a pre-K teacher and we spend a lot of time learning about letter sounds. I have also taught phonics as a 2nd grade teacher and when I taught K-6 ESL. I also have my masters in special education which includes a variety of strategies for teaching reading to students who struggle in the area.
