I have been teaching elementary in CCSD for the last three years. I have an extensive background in working with exceptional students. I am skilled with differentiating curriculum in order to create, and maintain, engagement while helping students to exceed within the subjects of reading, math, and writing. I have a master's degree in literacy and am currently in the process of completing a masters in Gifted and Talented Education.
I live for the "ah-ha" moment that I see within my students when they grasp a concept that they didn't understand prior. I work with students who come from a variety of ethnic backgrounds and enjoy helping them create a love of learning. I am always studying new forms of instruction and building a toolbox of strategies to use with my students. I have found that my passion is teaching, I am excited to help students beyond my classroom.
My method of teaching allows for students to think outside the box in order to find creative, and logical, solutions to a variety of problems. I encourage my students to think things through, and if need be look at things from another angle in order to solve the problems they are presented.
I am a endorsed reading specialist which allows me to utilize the most recent and research based strategies to help students, of all grade-levels, to improve their reading skills in order to build comprehension within the other subjects.
I have been trained extensively in the Common Core State Standards [CCSS]. This training allows me to create curriculum and lessons that will best help students understand the concepts that are required to be learned through the CCSS.
I have worked in elementary and middle school grade-levels as a tutor, teacher's aide, paraprofessional, and finally as a teacher. Through all of the experience I have gained while working in the education system I have learned to teach responsibility and study skills that are differentiated based on the needs of each individual student.
I can't wait to help students reach their goals and become higher achieving students. I believe that engagement is the key to learning. I love finding the interests of my students so that they can engage in learning that is interest based. I can't wait to help any student who schedule's lessons with me to find their own way of learning. I have been teaching elementary in CCSD for the last three years. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I was trained in Common Core curriculum design at Dixie State University through their elementary education program. This training helped me to learn how to dissect standards in order to find the strands that are needed in order for students to succeed. This training is confirmed through my degree and teaching license that was awarded. The license also has the added endorsements for English as a Second Language [ESL] and Literacy Curriculum and Instruction.
I am licensed through the states of Nevada and Utah in elementary education. I have been teaching second grade for the last three years; however, I am skilled with teaching grade levels as high as eighth grade. This is through experience that I gained through teaching, tutoring, being a paraprofessional, and a teacher's aid.
When completing my first master's degree in literacy I was trained extensively in phonics. This training in phonics included learning how to teach using a variety of phonics programs including Saxon Phonics and Explicit Phonics. Along with that training I have participated in teaching RTI reading within my district where the lessons were phonics based lessons.
In order to help my students succeed I push them to learn responsibility, and routine through the learning environment that I create. With the activities that students complete we are able to build and solidify student skills that they may not have had prior. Through positive reinforcement and real world connections to content the student not only will build study skills but they will find a way of learning that works specifically for them.
