About Diane

Hi! My name is Diane and I am a licensed teacher with a Master's degree in education and 17 years of experience in teaching! My philosophy of teaching is that everyone can and should be given every opportunity to learn. I use a humanistic approach which encompasses the total development of each person. The use of multi-tiered, cooperative learning activities address students of all academic levels. Varied lesson plans focus on each of the seven learning styles giving each student the ability to thrive.

My teaching career has been geared toward the empowerment of elementary school children. I have a strong passion to educate young minds and help them blossom into well-rounded, responsible and successful individuals. Throughout the course of my career, though, I have had wonderful opportunities to teach diverse groups of students of all ages, including those with learning disabilities, those who performed at grade level and those who were gifted. As a result, I have become proficient at designing creative and stimulating lesson plans, which accommodate multiple intelligences, bring a hands-on approach to learning, and keep students interested and focused.

In the last 5 years, I have been teaching GED courses to help adult learners. I have seen 42 students successfully pass the GED test after using my services and I hope to see many, many more. The feeling of setting that goal and then reaching it is amazing!

Here is what you can expect when using my tutoring services: a personal, tailor-made lesson base created just for you, a boost in self-confidence when you reach the goals you set forth, and instruction from a trained, experienced educator who knows how to get results. Here is what I expect from my students: a mutual respect between tutor and student, a willingness to learn and a desire to succeed. I offer both personal and online tutoring and daily and weekly tutoring sessions. I also will do half-hour, hour or 2 hours blocks. If you wish for a longer session, please contact me. I tutor both gifted students looking for enrichment and struggling students needing academic help. I am highly selective of my students and those I choose will succeed. Please contact me today to set up an interview.

Thank you!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Bible Studies

Religion tutoring involves all aspects of the Bible from the Old Testament to the New. I have 9 years of experience teaching Bible Studies, from a Christian perspective, to K-11 graders. I enjoy bringing Bible stories to life by using multi-media technology and hands-on fun.

Career Development

Career Development Tutoring includes aiding students in finding what areas they are interested in and combining that into what they are good at to come up with a possible future career. I use testing such as the COIN test, personality profiles and learning style quizzes to find out for which areas the student is best suited for success.

Common Core

I am a licensed teacher, so I had no choice but to take on the common core for my students. I have been teaching common core since its inception and have become an expert on it. I am able to teach all of the core subjects, even the "crazy" math! :)

Composition (Music)

Composition tutoring includes teaching students styles of music, chords, music themes and sense to create a flow of music on paper and when played. I have 20 years of music composition experience.

Cooking tutoring includes everything from ingredients to measurements to the final product. I have 29 years of cooking experience and worked for 2 years as a cruise line chef.

Dyslexia in letters and numbers can pose a challenge to students but using kinesthetics can help. By tracing the letter or number, students can sense the motion of their fingers to determine whether it is a 5 or a 2 for example. I have 3 years experience working with dyslexic students and have many "tricks" to help them cope with their dyslexia.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have a masters in education and 12 years experience teaching K-8th graders. I am proficient in all subjects and have taught all levels from struggling students to exceptional. I teach to the student's learning style to give the student the best chance at success.

Elementary Math

I taught 5th grade Math and Science for 5 years and tutored 5th grade math for 6 years.

I work for a company out of Beijing teaching Chinese clients speak and read English. I have the skills and tools to teach you!

I have been playing the flute for 30 years. I have placed 1st in my flute solo competitions, and received 1's on my duets. I can sight read music and have a 3 octave range. I have 2 years experience as a flute coach.

I have been tutoring students in test prep for the GED for 3 years. I have seen 32 students meet their goal of passing the test after tutoring with me. I have purchased all the materials the student needs and I stay up to date on changes and enhancements made to the GED test. I offer standard tutoring for those new to the testing and advanced fast-track for those students that only need a refresher. Tutoring is done at your pace on your schedule!

Study Skills

The study skills method I use is the GOAT method which works well for all learning styles. Students will learn tricks for studying including sight reading, topic acquisition and organizational skills. I have 3 years of experience in this area!

Great Tutor — Diane - A great tutor and patient. I was very impressed with our initial meeting to discuss services. She brought along an assessment for my son to get a feel for his skills; this showed an eager and serious interest. During our first tutoring session, she worked with son on a few writing assignments, followed by some reading exercises. Her creativity was conveyed in the work they accomplished ...
