Hello! My name is Stanley. I am a 22-year-old graduate from the University of Nevada Reno (UNR) with a Bachelors degree in Neuroscience. My time at UNR provided me with some wonderful learning experiences. I was able to achieve a 3.31 GPA in a fast evolving major while working full time as a resident assistant and holding a vice president position for the leadership council at The Nevada Living Learning Community. As a resident assistant I was able to achieve a combined four years of experience helping diverse groups of students with their coursework. While I have a background in chemistry and biology, I was also able to assist with subjects such as: psychology, English, history, even music. I learned through teaching that solving the problem isn't the most important part of learning, but that discovering study methods and habits for future success is the big picture in learning. Whenever I teach a new student I try to establish study habits that lead to their success. So eventually they become the master and won't need me anymore.
Leaving my bright and optimistic residents was hard for me to do, but my experience helped me to transition into dedicating more time into my current endeavors. I currently work for the department for youth and family engagement at the YMCA as a counselor for ages 5-15. Working with adults on college coursework was challenging, but working with kids was anew challenge for me. Working for children really helped me learn how to impart study habits in all ages and really gave inspiration to the unabating passion I have for teaching and helping people reach their goals.
Algebra 2 was my hardest subject in High School. I however, learned a very important lesson. Students can only be as passionate as their teachers. I had to work really hard in my Algebra 2 class and I felt alone in this process. My teacher often missed class and would disparage her students. For these reasons making the grade was really tough. The one thing that helped me was YouTube, while I didn’t have someone in pe
