My name is Rusty and I am interested in getting back in the tutoring business. I began tutoring high school students while I was still in high school and continued to do so while in college. At the same time, while majoring in Math/Computer Science, I also began tutoring college-age students at another local university. This continued after I graduated while I was obtaining my Master's Degree in Education. I then did my student teaching in both Algebra 1 and Algebra 2, received my teaching license and taught high school for two years. During this time I continued to tutor local high school and college age students.

While teaching high school, I taught every age group from 8th grade through 12th and taught the following subjects: Algebra 1, Honors Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry and Pre-Calculus. I then joined the police department, completed my career, retired and moved to Las Vegas.

Upon moving to Las Vegas, I started tutoring for a few years until my son was born. Once that happened, I devoted most of my free time to my family. He is now in high school and I have more free time and I'm looking to start tutoring again.

In addition to all the high school mathematics courses I took, in college I took Calculus 1, 2, 3 & 4, Number Theory, College Geometry, Teaching Mathematics, Probability & Statistics, Statistics for Teachers, Linear Algebra, Differential Equations, and Abstract Algebra. I also had numerous classes in education including teaching the gifted learner, teaching the exceptional learner, educational psychology and numerous others.

As far as my style goes in tutoring, it somewhat mirrored my classroom technique. Although no two students learn the same and any teacher or tutor needs to be able to adjust their teaching to the individual student/class I am a believer in the Saxon teaching method. By that, I believe there should be constant review even as we continue to progress. Mathematics is not a subject like History or English where you can simply forget what you have previously learned. Everything that you learn is a building block towards the future and that must be constantly reviewed. While some students do not need as much review as others, I have found that review or refreshing of past topics never hurts any individual student. I also am a firm believer in work outside of class or the tutoring environment and on a consistent basis. Consistent work, done correctly, creates consistent habits which lead to success in any endeavor. Lastly, I realize that calculators are a necessary part of today's society and have their uses. However, I'm a firm believer in teaching students how to learn to think. I believe that knowing how to get to the answer of a problem is just an as important as the answer itself.

Thank you for your time and I look forward to speaking with you and/or answering any questions you may have.
