I am a permanent substitute teacher in a local high school. I was previously a substitute teacher for pre-K through high school. I have a love of learning and helping others to learn. I believe that learning opens doors to the future. I graduated high school and college in 7 years. Throughout high school and college I tutored my peers. I am currently a mentor for a middle school group at my church.

I believe that students should be challenged, but not overwhelmed. Breaking lessons down into comprehensible pieces will assist students in learning and mastering topics. Consistent practice and focus on the basics is necessary to grow and excel in learning. I also believe that learning should be fun, and believe that laughing and talking are part of the tutoring relationship.

To master geometry, students need to be motivated and engaged. Using real world and tangible examples will help to learn and master the topic. To succeed at algebra, showing one's work and repetition are secrets to success. Reading is essential to success in literature and language arts - what you read is not as important as the actual reading. Social studies and in particular US History are of great interest to me, which helps me to engage and teach this subject. I studied Spanish middle school through college. I believe in practicing general conversation and learning new words to build a vocabulary and comfort in the language.

Through patience and enthusiasm, I will help students to explore and investigate and discover answers and topics by their own efforts, rather than just being given information.

I am available to tutor evenings during the weekend, and am flexible with weekend availability. I look forward to hearing from you and helping you (or your child) succeed in your (his/her) studies.

Friendly and encouraging

Jennifer has been a great tutor to our teen. She is patient, encouraging and has great insight to how the schools work and what teachers are doing in the classroom. I HIGHLY recommend her to anyone--we have had a great experience and hope to hire her again next year. Thanks, Jennifer!

Very knowledgeable and patient

We couldn't be happier with Jennifer. After just one session, my twin 7th graders felt much more confident and my daughter just got a 52 out of 53 correct on her most recent math quiz. So happy with Jennifer!

Great First Lesson

Jennifer did a great first tutor lesson with my daughter. She listened to our concerns and helped her feel comfortable. She did an evaluation to see where she is at with math and gave us feedback. She also set up an assignment to read a book together to process and will discuss at next session.
