About Jean

My passion for science has always led me on many exciting adventures, and sharing my enthusiasm for science brings me great joy and pride. I completed my Bachelor of Science, Cum Laude, at The Ohio State University with a major in Biological Sciences and a minor in Neuroscience. After taking a couple of years to teach English overseas in Japan, I moved to the Bronx to attend graduate school at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. There, I earned a Master of Science "with Distinction" in Biomedical Sciences and eventually a Ph.D. in the subject of computational biophysics. Since my Ph.D. dissertation work allowed me to develop my skills in computer programming and physics, I was later able to apply my expertise to the field of planetary science as a postdoctoral research associate at the Lunar and Planetary Laboratory of The University of Arizona. During my postdoc, I participated in the development of a photochemical model of the Martial atmosphere as part of the NASA MAVEN Mission and had the opportunity to attend the NASA Planetary Science Summer School. Throughout my scientific education, I have also consistently been engaged in science outreach programs, acting as a STEM Teaching Fellow for the New York Academy of Sciences and as a public speaker for science talks at Borderlands Brewing Co.

Since mathematics provides an essential basis for scientific research, I have cultivated a robust understanding of many quantitative disciplines. I have a particular love of geometry, trigonometry, algebra, and calculus and enjoy making these subjects accessible to others.

The breadth and depth of my scientific education also speaks to my ability to be an excellent science tutor. I believe my genuine love of science, exploration, and discovery provides me with the power to help students dissect difficult subjects and come to solid understandings based in first principles.

Science is an adventure, and I hope you will consider enlisting me as your tutor! I look forward to hearing from you!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Physical Science

I tutor high school students and undergraduates in physical science. Because of my background in both planetary science and biophysics, I am very comfortable handling a wide-range of topics.
