About Yin

I graduated from San Francisco State University in 2007 with a BS degree in Molecular Cell Biology and a minor in Chemistry Since graduating, I’ve spent the last 6 years working as a research chemist or associate in Biotechnology and Medical device companies. I also expanded my academic knowledge with medical microbiology courses last year, and am currently taking a graduate level hematology course as a part of my plan to pursue a Clinical Laboratory Science license. In addition, I’ve been taking practice tests from the KAPLAN MCAT biological and chemical science books. I am definitely qualified to tutor college level biology and chemistry courses with my current work experience and knowledge. Tutoring is a great fit for my schedule and a rewarding way to use the knowledge I have acquired over the years from study and practical experience.

While I was a college student, I tutored 3rd and 9th grade Math and Biology and was a mentor for preschool children as a part of the Jump Start program. Seeing young children grow and succeed is one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve ever have. Now, I want to tutor college level biology and chemistry courses since I have become very familiar with those subjects through my work experience and continuous study of graduate level medical biology courses. I want to help college students to succeed in their academics.

Contact me if you need help in general biology, microbiology, physiology and chemistry. My schedule is flexible and I can meet you any place which will be the best fit for both of us. I look forward to hearing from you.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Biology

I had a four-year BS in Molecular Cell Biology from SFSU, and I took several biological courses such as General College Biology I &II, Immunology , Cell Biology, Genetics, Molecular Genetics. I spent my last 6 years working as a research associate in Biotech and Medical Devices companies, using molecular biology technique to do protein characterization work, and applying this knowledge in my career.

Chemistry

I took General Chemistry (I&II), Organic Chemistry (I&II), Biochemistry (I&II) at SFSU during my junior year in college as a part of my degree requirement. In my three most recent jobs, I worked as a QA/QC chemist and R&D chemist at medical device and cancer drug companies. I have to use techniques related to analytical chemistry such as HPLC/GC/NMR/spectrophotometer and particle size analyzers (Dynamic light Scattering) machines to identify the compound structure to remove aggregation. At my most recent company, I published a paper together with my boss about the cancer drug we were currently working on. All of my job duties are related to analytical and general chemistry.

Microbiology

I took microbiology with lab when I was a junior in college and got a good recommendation from my microbiology lab professor. I also recently took medical microbiology course (I&II), virology and parasitology to extend my knowledge and to pursue CLS training program in the future. Moreover, I had to apply microbiology sterilization techniques while I was doing tissue culture work at biotech companies and in medical research. I have good study techniques for memorization of genus and species of bacteria causing disease, and I would like to share my studying strategy with college students to help them learn these materials more easily.

Physiology

I took plant and animal physiology course Part I & II with lab at SFSU and I did very well in those courses. In addition, I learned USMLE medical physiology course from my cousin who is a tutor of USMLE students to extend my knowledge. As a result, I am familiar with advanced level endocrinology and physiology.
