About Eric

Hello, my name is Eric and I taught Elementary Education and High School Business Education in Connecticut. After being involved in a not-at-fault motor vehicle accident, my ability to work was severely limited and I resigned from my position. It took almost five years to PT back to health and the doctors recommended a relocation to a dry climate. I have worked my first career in gaming and then moved to education because I enjoy working with children of all ages. If I can change the perspective of learning of just one child, I have made a difference. I believe that too many teachers are overburdened and make it easy on kids by letting them use calculators for simple math, something that we need our children to challenge their minds with. I received many positive comments from my high school students while teaching business classes because they felt that I went above and beyond what was expected, custom tailored their reviews based on the individual, and remember most fondly when Nico actually came up to me and said that every evaluation had been different and that must have taken a great deal of my time. I told him that each of the students in the class was an individual and deserved an individual evaluation as they would in the business community if they were working. It was my attempt to bring real life situations into the classroom so that they were ready to leave school with the proper tools for personal finance and obtaining employment.

Working in the elementary education level, I challenged those students who struggled with taking tests to move on if they couldn't answer the first question right away and go through the test, answering every question they were positive of. They would then have additional time to focus on questions they had doubts or needed to perform more calculations on. Grade averages in my class went up a full letter grade after I taught the students how to properly take exams. I also encouraged those students who were labeled special needs to try and do the regular work and I would assist them or let another student work with them. It was my attempt to never have a student feel like they were labeled and as such felt that they could never do the work as that would stay with them for life.

I am friendly, positive, and provide the reinforcement necessary for my students to succeed. I believe that you will be happy with the performance of your child after I work with them and will guarantee the results provided you are onboard as part of the educational team.

Wishing you and your child the best of luck in school and feel free to contact me for more information. I will be honest as to what I can do and what areas of expertise I have so that you are getting the best value for your child.

Sincerely,
Eric

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Accounting

My undergraduate work at Richard Stockton College in Pomona, NJ was in Accounting and Finance where I earned a Bachelor of Arts. I have worked as a consultant to small businesses in providing accounting and payroll, bookkeeping instruction, and other services. I have taught Accounting at the High School level when I was certified to teach Business Education in CT.

Business

I have had previous certification to teach Business Education at the High School Level in the State of CT. I have been a consultant to small businesses offering them guidance in deciding when to outsource specific areas based on cost vs. opportunity to earn revenue. If a person earns $50 an hour, it pays to outsource their bookkeeping for $30 as they net $20 an hour by focusing on their specialty. I have created marketing, accounting, and budgeting plans for businesses; run payroll and accounting functions for businesses; operated multiple businesses as an entrepreneur; and worked in positions from middle management to C-Level Corporate.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have a Master's in Education and taught Elementary Education across Pre K - 8th grade and business education at the high school level for four years in the Groton and New London, CT school systems. I understand how to work with students to encourage them to perform the work, show their calculations, and make learning fun. I have taught all subjects and have comprehensive lesson plans. I also try to make lessons meaningful and based on life circumstances so that students are interested because they can apply the work to real life situations.

Elementary Math

I have worked as a guest teacher in the Groton and New London, CT school systems in all grades and earned my Masters in Education and was certified to teach Business Education at the high school level. I was also utilized in the resource rooms to assist students with additional help in various subject matter with a focus on math.

Poker

I have worked in the gaming industry for over 23 years and been a player for 31. I currently work in the poker industry providing tournaments in one of the largest poker rooms in Las Vegas. Experienced in all games, psychology of game, probability, bankroll management and more.

QuickBooks

I have a Bachelor's in Accounting/Finance and am a consultant to small business owners offering computerized accounting software setup and support with QuickBooks. I have performed the necessary functions of payroll, accounting, financial statements, and more.
