Hi! My name is Jennifer. I started off my career as a Child Development Specialist working with infants and toddlers with disabilities for the state of Nevada. I did this for almost ten years before moving to New Mexico where I taught a preschool classroom of 2.5 to 4 year olds with disabilities. I tutored regular elementary-aged children in Virginia, specifically in reading, and I also was the lead teacher for a regular daycare/learning center in Southern Utah for children 2 to 13. My preference is to tutor elementary-age children because that is where most of my experience has come from. My special education experience has made me extremely patient in dealing with students. It has helped me to be successful in getting to know each, individual student I work with, and in determining what teaching technique is most effective for each student's learning style.
I don't believe in "labeling" children. As humans, we all have areas of weakness and areas which could use improvement. I believe that a good teacher or tutor is one who will work to build up a student's confidence and get him/her excited about learning. As a tutor, I work hard to connect with each student, find out what really matters to that student, and thus make learning fun and relevant. I think I show a lot of respect toward my students, and I believe that they respect me for it in return. Hi! My name is Jennifer. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
