About Alexander

I have taught at UCLA, Fairleigh Dickenson University, and other colleges and universities for many years. I have also tutored Accounting and Mathematics privately before teaching in classrooms.

I have a life time certificate of teaching in business courses from California Community Colleges. I am also the author of a fundamentals of accounting book, which is in full color and uses color coded tables and charts to make the learning process much easier and presently sells at online bookstores. My minor during my undergraduate studies was Mathematics.

This feedback is not exactly true. All the communications between Jack and I are on file. He asked for me to take an HP BII with me if I had one, which I do not have. He never told me that he was taking an online course and I thought that he had a textbook -textbooks usually have financial tables at the end which eliminate the need for a physical calculator. Also, online calculators are always readily available for use -a fact that he was not aware of and the suggestion of their use was probably assumed by him to be hiding the lack of knowledge of operating his calculator. Having taken a calculator with me and doing the calculation myself would have defeated the purpose of learning. To learn, he would have had to try calculating himself and he could not have done so on my calculator without a prior knowledge of its use. I was not familiar with the calculator that he had with him since each calculator is somewhat different in operation and I did not want to waste his time to learn how to use it -even he had trouble with his own calculator and kept making mistakes as compared to the results online which made me suggest to him to learn the process by using the online calculator and then later try to learn how to get the same results on his calculator (this was only to avoid unnecessary hours of teaching which would have been costly).
He also made me walk for many blocks to get to the Library of UNLV (my first time there) even though there was parking available at the campus. And then, he made me walk again to go to another building. Even though I spent about one hour of walking for this assignment and about one hour of driving, neither of which he was charged for, but yet he asked for a reduction in fees. Notice should be taken that this student had nothing to say about my knowledge of the subject and method of teaching - his rating is only about the absence of tutor's financial calculator, which he considered necessary.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I contacted Alex, and told him to bring his financial calculator. He arrived with no financial calculator, and no knowledge of how to use one. In accounting a financial calculator is a basic tool, and for him not to know anything about it, and to hide the fact that he did not know how to use one is despicable.
