About Craig

My passion is teaching. I love working with students and helping them to achieve their learning goals. In 1992, I was admitted to the California State Bar, after attending law school and passing the Bar exam. However, within 1 year, I realized that I wanted to teach. In 1993, I started working as a part-time substitute teacher, in California. I worked with Middle School and High School children. I also worked with students with special needs or what is referred to as "children at risk." Then, by 1996, I started lecturing at the Community Colleges. I am also a published author. My forte is the English language, both the spoken and written word.

In 2011, I moved to Iowa (family is there) and taught in the private Catholic schools, as well as the public schools. In 2012-2013, I taught at the University Of Dubuque, Iowa, as a Sociology Professor, with a concentration in teaching Social Research and Writing, as well as creating a core course in Immigration - Social and Political Policy. I have now relocated back to the west and am living in Las Vegas.

I love teaching and from some of my students' letters, it appears that they feel more empowered from having been my students. I would love an opportunity to help you, your child or family member learn.

Thank you.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

In 1992, I began my legal practice. Many of my clients were young people who got into trouble because of behavioral issues, now defined as ADD/ADHD. Then, in 1993, I began teaching part time in the public school system in California.

I worked with what was then identified as "at risk" students. I was given continual assignments working in classroom environments with students who were segregated from the general population because of behavioral issues. And, for the past 20 years, I continued to work with "at risk" or ADD/ADHD students, even encountering them in the University environment when I taught at that level.

Bar Exam

I have been a licensed attorney for 22 years. I went to law school in California - Southwestern U. School of Law 1988-1991. I passed the bar the first time and then have been in practice for 22 years. I also have been teaching in both public and private schools and, most recently, in the University setting. I am a California licensed attorney.

Business

I have an undergraduate degree in Business Administration. I also have been an advisor to businesses throughout my legal career. I have created for profit companies in the private sector for engineers in the manufacturing sectors and in the oil industry. I have also helped non-profits with incorporation and in achieving federal non-profit status. I also conducted a successful legal practice for 20 years in California.

CBEST

After receiving my law degree in 1991 and passing the bar in 1992, I began practicing law in June 0f 92, in California. Within several months, I realized that I wanted to teach. Therefore, I studied for and passed the CBEST test. I received an Emergency Teaching Certificate or CBEST in 1993.

I began teaching as a Sub in the public school system (Eng., Math, Social Studies). I then sought and began teaching at the local Community colleges. Most recently, I was a faculty member at the Univ. Of Dubuque, in Iowa. I taught Social Research and Writing, Sociology and I created a course in Immigration and Social Policy.

Teaching is what I love and what I am truly meant to do.

Criminal Justice

I went to law school in 1988-91, passed the Bar in 1992, and started practicing in June of that same year. I had a trial practice for most of my career, which spanned 20 years. I would estimate that I represented over 100 defendants in the Criminal Justice system in that time. My cases ranged from A-Z, simple assault to first-degree murder.

I also the elements of Criminal law in the Community colleges and Mock Trial in the public school system.

I am very qualified to teach CJ.

Marketing

I have a BSBA in Business Administration. Marketing was a subset of the degree. In 1983, I set up and ran a Sweedish-American joint venture company for engineers. This involved creating a market for an industrial metal tile that was 7x lighter than Spanish clay tile. Had to work with engineering departments in Cal. to design appropriate testing to get UL Certification. After this, then began marketing to construction industry. Style Tile is the #1 tile for horse barns in Southwest today.

In 2008-2010, I created an oilfield services company, creating the business plan, stock options and securing the patent. After this, working in conjunction with one of the key engineers, we put together a Grant Proposal, which was chosen for presentation in Washington D.C. in 2009, before the Dept. of Energy and the Stripper Well Consortium. We received a $128,000.00 Grant. After that, my wife and I set up the marketing arm of the company re: Jet Lifting Systems, Inc. and traveled the midwest to oil shows.

I also continued working to create marketing opportunities for my law practice for 20 years.

Social Studies

I have been teaching, both part-time and full-time since 1993. Most recently, I taught Sociology at the Univ. of Dubuque, in Iowa. I have also taught in public and private middle and high schools re: civics, government, history and social studies, in addition to English.

Because I have an advanced degree re: Juris Doctor, I am eligible for and in the process of getting my special qualifications license in Nevada to teach Social Studies full time.

Sociology

I taught Sociology re: Introductory Sociology at University of Dubuque, Iowa in 2012 and 2013. I also taught Social Research and Writing, 2012 and 2013 at the University of Dubuque, Iowa. And, I also created a course in Immigration and Social Policy and Social Justice.

In addition, I taught as a Substitute Teacher in middle and secondary schools in California (part-time), beginning in 1993 through 1997 and again taught middle and secondary schools in Iowa (part-time, when not teaching at the University)as Substitute 2012 and 2013. The subjects I taught in middle school were math, english, reading and writing and social studies. THe subjects I taught in high school were english, reading and writing and social studies re: Government, U.S. History, Political Science.

Study Skills

I am an attorney by profession and have been a part-time substitute teacher, since 1993. In 2012, I began teaching at the University level in Dubuque, Iowa. Much of my time in teaching, both as a Substitute and a University Professor was involved in teaching my students to focus on the specific subject matter at hand.

In fact, at the University of Dubuque, I created a Study Guide for the University, which was handed out to students. To do this, I worked with a Science Major, as well as a Flight Operations Manager. We organized each students' time from getting up, to showering and then eating and onto class times, free time and extra-curricula activities, study time and winding down time.

When students saw the evidence of how they spent their days, they then were able to organize their schedules to more effectively manage time for studying. I created a correlation between a given grade and the amount of study time normally required to achieve the grade. Obviously, this varied from student to student, but it was a benchmark.

If a student did not have sufficient time during a week day, then he or she would take more time from the weekend to study. In this way, I personally saw several of my students increase their grade by at least a half a grade level or more.
