Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Anatomy

Bachelor of Science, Human Anatomy and Physiology, Medical Doctor degree, Board-certified Internal Medicine.

Biology

I am a Board-certified medical doctor in Internal Medicine. I also teach Biology.

English

English is my primary language. Although I am not proficient in Spanish I have tutored Hispanic students in the past who were seeking to learn English and improve their English vocabulary and sentence structure.

GED

I am currently tutoring students in the GED prep where we cover Language Arts, Math, Science and Social Studies. With consistency and practice these students are gaining confidence in the subject areas in preparation for the GED exam.

Microbiology

As a part of my Undergraduate training for my Bachelor's degree in Human Anatomy and Physiology I had to take one year of Microbiology at the University of Illinois (two semesters) which I completed with a 4.0 out of 4.0 GPA.

Nursing

I am Board-certified in Internal Medicine. As part of my undergraduate work in preparation for my Bachelor's of Science degree in Human Anatomy and Physiology I had to take two years of Math, one year of Physics and three years of chemistry which included Biochemistry, Organic and Inorganic Chemistry. I definitely understand Anatomy, Physiology, Pathophysiology and Medical Terminology. I look forward to helping nursing students and other students pursuing allied health careers with their educational goals.

Nutrition

I not only have an interest in nutrition but took one year of nutrition as part of my undergraduate studies in preparation for pre-medical curriculum at the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana. I also had to learn nutrition in medical school which I did and worked with nutritionists and patients when I practiced Internal Medicine.

Physiology

I am a physician who majored in Anatomy and Physiology with considerable Biology in my undergraduate studies desiring to help students with their tutoring needs in these subjects.

Public Speaking

The past 18 years I have been a Public Speaker in two fields: vocational ministry and medical and health related topics.

Regarding my experience in vocational ministry I have spoken at numerous churches around the USA as well as in Egypt and New Zealand giving my personal testimony and inspiring and motivating others to overcome obstacles in their own lives. In 2007 I had my own local radio show and in 2009 was asked to speak as a guest on a popular TV show.

In addition to being a motivational and inspirational speaker, I have given talks on health-related issues and medical problems as I am a Board-certified physician in Internal Medicine. These speaking engagements have been on various platforms such as local civic groups and women's resource centers.

I thoroughly enjoy Public Speaking. It is my passion and I have been very gratified that when I have had speaking engagements the audience members relate how meaningful and enjoyable it was to them.

I seek to utilize these skills to empower others on developing the content of their talks as well as addressing important aspects of how to deliver their message so it impacts the audience. Developing confidence as a speaker is part of this process. I look forward to helping students achieve their goals to be the best Public Speaker they can be!

Reading

When I was teaching in Christchurch, New Zealand there was a student with Asperger's who needed help with reading and comprehension. I tutored her in this and she did very well with patience and positive reinforcement...reading well and exhibiting much better comprehension of what she read.

Special Needs

I am Board-Certified in Internal Medicine with a Bachelor of Science in Human Anatomy and Physiology. When I lived in New Zealand for a year I tutored privately a woman with Asperger's syndrome who had great difficulty learning. She ended up doing very well and being successful in the studies I taught her. A lot of patience, understanding and repetition is needed in working with Special Needs students as well as trying to make the learning process relevant and enjoyable for them. Keeping the sessions on the shorter side but more frequent may be of help. Thank you for your consideration of my application for Special Needs tutoring. I believe I would do well with helping students in this regard.

Writing

I have much experience writing, have written and edited a book and have written articles for newsletters over the years. I enjoy putting words together in a meaningful, concise and cohesive manner and would enjoy tutoring in this subject. In addition, when I did public speaking, I would write out my topic which I considered to be very beneficial and helpful and give those handouts to the audience members. In summary, I believe I have experience in writing to tutor this subject effectively. Thank you.

Zoology

I took Zoology and Botany at the undergraduate level in addition to two years of Biology in preparation for my Bachelor of Science degree in Human Anatomy and Physiology. I obtained this degree at the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana before I went on to get my medical doctor degree at the University of Illinois in Chicago and Rockford campuses. Zoology is a subject I would very much be at ease tutoring. Thank you for your consideration.
