Cheryl, is a very well mannered lady. Very good at what she does. My 8 yr old gets excited to see her.
Mrs V. Has been a God send for us! She is very patient and understanding to the needs of our son, and to our family. Cheryl has gone above and beyond to help our son to achieve goals and give him confidence. My son looks forward to seeing her every week. I truly believe that this up and coming school year our son is going to rock 3rd grade!
THANK YOU MRS.V!!
We are working on math- numbers, add and subtract
words- sounds and blending and overall kindergarten skills.
She is wonderful and very encouraging.
Reading and math mostly. My granddaughter has a reading level that anyone could be proud of. She understands math and can do some problems mentally.
Cheryl has come to every lesson on-time and prepared. She works to keep my daughter on track. She reaches out to her primary teacher to make sure we are all working towards the same goals.
Cheryl is an amazing tutor. She is very patient and kind. She goes the extra mile to ensure the student understands everything she is teaching. I highly recommend her!
She is always professional. She comes in happy and gets right to work. My son always has a hard time with homework and basic learning with my husband and I. With Mrs. V, he's always excited to see her and happy to learn. At the end of each session she gives me a review and always listens to my concerns. It has only been 3 sessions and my son's teacher already told me she saw improvements (which is huge). Over all, Mrs. V is great with my son and I would recommend her to everyone!
I hope this review is helpful for all you parents that are looking for great tutoring for your child. Good luck on your search for tutors but we found ours.
My son and I are having very happy with Cheryl and all she has done so far. Every session my son is excited for her visit and to learn. Previously having focusing problems she has found ways to keep him completely focused and paying attention to her and what he is learning, even with the sometimes numerous distractions that can occur at home. I am thrilled that I have found someone that my son loves and can help him on the skill and subjects he needs assistance with.
My son has continued to work very well with Mrs. V and is showing improvement in school. She has been a great help and works extremely well with him. She also keeps regular communication going with my son's teacher which I think is great.
Cheryl has been a blessing. She is always on time and comes prepared ready to work with my child. She is very patient, attentive, and always finds ways to improve the tutoring session. She has a solid background working with kids and translates in her teaching methods. Cheryl has been able to keep my child focused and achieve more learning time during the 60 minute session. We are definitely seeing improvements in our child. We would highly recommend Cheryl to help you with your tutoring needs.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I've worked with students with Autism, in utilizing Applied Behavior Analysis(ABA)and Discrete Trial Teaching (DTT) intervention. During this process, I've provided direct assistance to parents regarding target behaviors to decrease body movements from moving repetitively. These self-stimulatory behaviors include: hand-flapping spinning or flipping of objects. Also, I've utilized the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS)to assist in the communication needs of children with Autism.
I have worked in The Los Angeles School District and Clark County School District for a combined 20 years and have tutored 60-80 students. I've passed the English Proficiency Assessment for my present position as Itinerant Tester. I've also passed the Praxis Assessment for Paraprofessionals to be Highly Qualified. Working with teachers, parents and children towards their educational needs has been a satisfying reward for me.
I have experience in teaching grammar to elementary students. In learning the parts of speech, they were able to identify and use them appropriately. As a result, the students' reading comprehension and writing skills made noticeable gains.
I have worked in The Clark County School District in one on on and group settings with Deaf and Hard of Hearing students. I provided assistance in the following: independent skills, educational prompts, grading instructional materials, and mediating sign language for clarity in communication for teachers and staff.
I've been able to assist beginning readers to decode new written words by sounding them out or blending the sound-spelling patterns. My initial approach for beginning readers is to use ABC flashcards to teach vowel phonics patterns: short vowels and long vowels. After a student is comfortable, sight words and high frequency words are introduced. I use high levels of reinforcement throughout the tutoring session. This has been helpful in both beginning readers and students with learning disabilities.
Reading is critical in bridging the gap between knowledge and lack of knowledge. It allows the mind to have adventure and excitement. It prepares and equips towards future endeavors. Please allow me to help you on this journey!!
I have worked in The Los Angeles Unified School District and Clark County School District for a combined 20 years. These years have placed me in a variety of settings in special needs. Settings such as: DD, HH, Deaf, SLD, Autism and Visually Impaired.
I've tutored lower elementary school students and beginning readers through weekly spelling quizzes and tests. These quizzes and tests focused on phonics-based spelling rule to help students gain mastery. I included a list of 5-20 words to allow students to grasp the concept before moving onward. I would truly enjoy helping you to both learn and improve in spelling!!
