Sheila has been working with our son for about 2 weeks now, and she has been very patient with him! I feel that he is doing progress with her help, in math as well as with his confidence to solve problems, thank you!!!
Gives quality homework help and develops a passion for writing and correct sentence structure my son did not have prior to working with Sheila. He always feels great after a lesson with Sheila.
Sheila is very patient and knowledgeable. She's helping my son with many different forms of math. We just loved her. She is devoted to helping Enzo learn and grow.
Sheila is helping Enzo learn several different methods while trying to keep it as simple as possible. My son is responding to her and he's learning.
Sheila was very nice and arrived early . She let me know the areas he needs more work in and she recommended a learning computer program for him. She only stayed for an hour, we decided that future sessions will be 2-3 hours. I look forward to having more sessions with Sheila, I believe she will get my son in the right track !
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I enjoy seeing the look on students' faces as they become successful peforming basic math. They are amazed when they realize what they have become capable of accomplishing and that they do not need a calculator. I have tutored elementary math for almost a year. I am kind and patient with my students.
I have a Masters in Psychology and have tutored at many grade levels including teaching creative writing that helps with sentence structure.
I have been tutoring phonics to K-4 students for almost a year (starting in January 2012). At first I tutored Clark County (Nevada) School District students in the No Child Left Behind program. Many of my students are non-native English speakers. I am passionate and enthusiastic about teaching reading and phonics to elementary school children. I have discovered that with knowledge of phonics young students can tackle any word they encounter. My motto is, "when in doubt, sound it out."
I have a master's degree in Psychology from Antioch University, Seattle. I have a passion for psychology and I love sharing my passion and knowledge with students.
I have lots of experience teaching phonics, reading comprehension and study skills. I use phonics with the beginning readers. To improve comprehension, my students read passages then answer questions about what they read. We discuss the readings as we go along.
I have been tutoring phonics to K-6 students for almost a year (starting in January 2012). At first I tutored Clark County (Nevada) School District students in the No Child Left Behind program. Now I tutor private students. I have developed study techniques for each individual student. For example, some of my students have trouble reading without getting lost. I teach them to use a sheet of paper to mark the line they are reading and to move it down the page as needed. I have taught some students to read their assignments twice, the second time keeping in mind the questions that need to be answered. With each student I formutlate study techniques for them and I change these as needed as I observe their work as they progress. My background in psychology helps me gain insight into each student's behavior and to adapt study skills for each individual student.
I provide my students with text passages that will increase their vocabulary based on whatever level they are at. I encourage the students to ask questions and I explain words that they do not know. I point out how the text gives clues as to the meaning of new words. The more a person reads, the more vocabulary they learn.
I am a writer. I write on Facebook. I have written college papers. I have worked with children that have the ability to publish.
