Community College of Southern NV (Other)
I have been a graphic designer for the past 16 years working mainly in the convention and trade show industry. I graduated from the College of Southern NV in 1997 where I earned an Associate of Applied Science in Commercial Art/ Computer Graphic Design.
The convention industry has allowed me to work in a large format environment where I get to see my creations on a 20 foot high wall at times as well as desktop publishing where I am fortunate to see some of my hard work be mass produced distributed for many to see. It is a great feeling of self-accomplishment when I am afforded the opportunity to view my work as many others are viewing simultaneously. I have also done an extensive amount of freelance work for a variety of clientele ranging from simple logo design, to full corporate identity packages, to complete yellow pages books. I have a collection of personal works that are proudly displayed on the walls of my home that receive great comments from anyone that walks thru the door. I am constantly challenging myself by pushing the limits of what can be achieved thru a mixture of 2D design and dimensional sculpture.
I am very patient when it comes to guiding one through the design process and using digital software to achieve the desired outcome. I will approach a task from various angles and I love the moment when the student's split-second pause, smile on their face, twinkle in their eyes and the thought process of the realization that, "Hey, I did it!" David is a prompt, reliable, kind, amazing, and an engaging tutor.
My son was bombing in his HS graphics class and David has completely helped him turn it around. My son is learning amazing things and loving the work. My son is 16 with processing delays and ADHD. David works with him and now my son is able to create some fantastic work. I'm overjoyed!!
David really helped me with my current position. I was really struggling with Adobe InDesign and has a large project due. The three hours I spent with David made a world of difference and I can now tackle my projects with confidence. David made himself available on very short notice and accommodated my schedule. I can highly recommend David and will definitely use him again in the future.
Dave has great patience and is easy to understand. He knows his subject very well. As I was, I think anyone who hires Dave will be pleased. Good Job!
David was patient, caring and knowledgeable. When I feel I need him in the future I will definitely request him as my tutor in all aspects of Photoshop. David was particularly helpful for me specifically because, like me, his is an artist, and we are very much on the same wavelength re. taste, methods and standards. David is a perfectionist, as am I, when it comes to his work on every level, including his tutoring, though I also found him to be fun and relaxed. He did not push me or make me feel that there was anything I could not understand. I would recommend him to others, in fact, I already have.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Adobe Illustrator is part of the Adobe Design Suite and is the industry standard vector based drawing software. This software was part of the curriculum at the College of Southern NV where I earned my Associate of Applied Science in Commercial Art/Computer Graphic Design in 1997. I have been using this software since then to create various vector based design elements such as logos. It is also an integral part of the design process for design used in magazines advertisements, flyers, business cards and also large format graphics used in conventions and trade shows. It's set of tools provide the capability to manipulate a simple vector shape into a unique vector object. Vector art can also be scaled to any size without sacrificing image quality.
Adobe InDesign is the industry standard desktop publishing software. This software was part of the curriculum at the College of Southern NV where I earned my Associate of Applied Science in Commercial Art/Computer Graphic Design in 1997. I have been using this application since then to create page layout design for such things as books, magazines and flyers. InDesign is very useful because of it's capability to make the page layout design process very easy. Some of it's features almost automate repetitive tasks such as typography.
Adobe Photoshop is the industry standard photo editing software. This software was part of the curriculum at the College of Southern NV where I earned my Associate of Applied Science in Commercial Art/Computer Graphic Design in 1997. I have been using this software since then to create various design elements for print to include magazines advertisements, single-page flyers, business cards and also large format graphics for use in conventions and trade shows. This software is a very intricate and powerful tool for design. It's capabilities for creating a masterpiece are vast.
Desktop Publishing is a sub-field of graphic design. This area deals mainly in multipage documents that include image manipulation, text formatting and page layout which is typically a collaboration of the two. Desktop publishing can be found in books, magazines, brochures, etc. One would often use various software such as Quark Xpress, Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop to name a few. Desktop publishing has been a part of my skill-set for over 16 years. It was one of the main focuses of my curriculum for my AA degree in computer graphics from CSN. It has been a big part of my professional career.
I am a graphic designer by trade, but math came easy for me in high school and college. By my senior year in high school, I had advanced to pre-calculus. I breezed through a college algebra course to satisfy the requirements for my associate's degree in graphic design. I still love to help my own children with their math homework and look forward to them challenging themselves.
I have been working with computers for as long as I can remember. I became familiar with them in grade school as tools for learning. Then in high school I took 2 computer science courses to learn some programming. Along with that, I began tinkering with building computers from scratch as well as troubleshoot them and networks. I have worked with PC's for over 30 years. Being a Senior Graphic Designer by trade has allowed me to become very familiar with the Macintosh platform as well, with over 20 years of experience.
I am a senior graphic designer with over 17 years experience. I hold an associates degree in graphic design from the College of Southern Nevada. I have worked with several convention and trade show companies' graphics departments including Czarnowski, MC2 and Champion Expo. I have been tutoring with Wyzant in the Adobe suite for two years.
Originally the main competitor to the IBM/PC. Macintosh based its research & development to cater to graphics rather than text based systems such as the PC. I have been working with the Macintosh platform, as well as the PC platform, for 25 years. I was introduced to Macintosh in grade school and continued using it in high school computer science classes, throughout college and all through my professional career. I have become very familiar with both PC and Macintosh platforms, although Macintosh is my number 1 choice when it comes to easy-to-use or user-friendly computer systems.
I have been working with Windows for over 20 years. From the time I was a Senior in high school, I began building my own computers. I began working with Windows 95 including the installation and troubleshooting. I have continued working with Windows throughout the years while completing numerous troubleshooting side jobs.
