Montana State U (Elementary)
I graduated Montana State in 2000 in Elementary Education. Before that, I was a carpenter, and after breaking my hip while building a house decided to return to school. I taught 1st grade for a while, but much of my experience has been subbing all grades and subjects. I especially like math and science, and have passed the middle school math and science PRAXIS tests. However, I have experience and training in all subjects including reading. In addition, I was trained in Montessori and worked as an aid after hi school, and tutored elementary students in reading while I was in hi school. The reason I chose an Elementary degree is that I have an interest in All subject areas! I do have a special interest in science and math though.
How I ended up in Henderson, Nevada, the Mojave Desert, is "following" my grandchildren. I raised my three children as a single parent, and years later their mom remarried. After high school they ended up here following their mother. So, now I have four grandchildren attending school here in Henderson, ranging from kindergarten to high school. I have even subbed classes at schools where two of them attend!
I have always loved math and seem to do well in it. I have taken extra classes and training in it. I have taken the middle school PRAXIS tests for Math.
Science has always been my favorite subject. As in Math, in addition to my elementary education degree training, I have had extra classes and training after I graduated MSU. I also have taken the middle school science PRAXIS tests.
In addition to the above reasons, I especially love working with the younger students. They have a natural inquisitiveness that I enjoy nurturing through investigation and inquiry whenever possible.
I really enjoy teaching and learning, and try to make it as fun and interesting as possible. The one on one situations can be very productive since individual wants and needs can be addressed.
Even though I have dealt mostly with my training and experience with science and math in this profile, I would like to mention that I have always and still do Love to read and a general interest in the language arts, along with much training in those subjects. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
My elementary ed degree from Montana State U in 2000 trained me and gave me student teaching experience to teach all subjects. I have taught elementary grades and substitute taught all grades. I have taken extra classes and have had more training in math and science, and passed the both of the middle school math and science PRAXIS tests.
I am a semi-retired teacher. My degree is elementary education, however, I have taken extra training in math, and have taken the middle school PRAXIS math and science tests. I've also done quite a bit of substitute teaching in middle and high school math and science. I live here in Henderson to be near my son, daughter, and grandchildren.
