I am a veteran teacher of middle school sciences including Life, Earth, and Physical Science and Social Studies. I am currently working as a middle school science and social studies teacher. I have taught the following science courses: Biology, Environmental Science. I have taught US Government, World History, US History, Geography, and Ancient Civilizations. I am experienced in other subject matter including writing (technical writing a specialty).
My tutoring experience includes social studies and science, of course. but also includes test preparation for End of Course (Senior Proficiency Exams) for Science, Social Studies, and English Language Arts. I have also tutoring for high school credit retrieval courses in the above topics. I specialize in helping students who think outside the box and struggle with the ''standard" teaching methods, I use a lot of hands on learning and learning through finding relevance.
I specialize in science tutoring first because I love science and I love bringing the fun of it to students. I understand that some students do not naturally think scientifically or critically and excel in helping those students find relevance in science and can explain complex concepts in easy to understand terms and in innovative ways.
My experience working as a Senior Legal Secretary for the District Attorney, I spent 8 years writing technical papers, proofreading and improving the writing of others. I have taught technical writing skills for 5 years in my science and social studies classroom in a manner that is both simple and fun. I view writing as a tool that students need for their future in the job market and in general life. My methods translate to practice life skills as well as teaching students how to look for and meet the needs and demands of their current teacher and future employers.
Education is my passion. I love teaching my in class students but really, really receive great job in helping struggling students, or students who just want to be the best they can be, in a small group or one on one environment. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
