About Amber

I am currently serving as a Teaching/Research Assistant at the University of Kentucky (UK) in Lexington, Kentucky while pursuing my M.S. and Ph.D in Physics. Every semester I teach and/or grade for undergraduate physics courses and preform various research tasks under my advisor in Radio Astronomy. Alongside my graduate student duties I served as a physics and mathematics tutor for the Center for Academic Resources and Enrichment Services at UK. Before attending UK I tutored for the Tutorial and Academic Enhancement Center (TAEC) at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, Louisiana for four years; while completing my B.S. in Mathematics. At the TAEC, I tutored math courses up to linear algebra, as well as physics I and II. At the end of my undergraduate career I received my CRLA Master Tutor certification. During the summer months I worked as a Child-Care Provider and Teacher for children 2-4 years old for the Mother's Day Out Program at First Arcadia Baptist Church, in Santa Fe, Texas. In addition to my many tutoring and teaching positions I have served as a private tutor from 2011-2017.

Outside of school I enjoy various outdoor activities such as the following: hiking, biking, rock climbing, and sports. During my undergraduate career I played Division I NCAA Women's Soccer for Nicholls. I also enjoy spending time with my family in Texas and taking part in various church activities.

I am enthusiastic about tutoring and learning!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

I have tutored several students in different educational settings while they were preparing for the ACT Math portion. I have my B.S in Mathematics and have a passion to help students improve their math skills to get them test ready.

Algebra 1

Microsoft Excel

While pursuing my B.S. in Mathematics and now M.S in Physics, I have had many opportunities to use the Microsoft Office package and also the Google Suite programs. I am very proficient in all Microsoft Office programs, especially Microsoft Excel; which I used to manage my own course grades and credits, along with many other things. During my undergraduate, I used this program to organize my data for my thesis defense.

Currently the students I teach as a teaching assistant use this program to do all of their calculations and data taking for their physics experiments.

Amazing tutor!

Amber is the most kind, patient tutor I have ever met with. Not only is she extremely talented in what she does, but she goes above and beyond for those she helps. She will make you study guides, post notes for you, and follows up after exams or assignments. She will gladly go at your own pace and makes you feel comfortable about how much or little you know!
