I have experience in teaching Japanese (JLPT prep, business and conversational) for over 15 years to college students and young professionals both privately and at a university. I teach both in person and online.
Originally my friends asked me to teach them some Japanese when I was living in Tokyo more than 15 years ago, and that's how I started it. When I moved to NYC I had several students to tutor for their Japanese classes and exams as well as some young professionals who needed to use Japanese at work. I also taught three classes of 75 students for conversation and grammar at a university for 2 years as part of my teaching assistantship.
One of the strengths that I believe I have and my students tell me, compared to some other Japanese teachers, is that I can explain and describe Japanese words and grammar points successfully using multiple examples in English. I can also explain using extra materials including anime and manga, which I believe is one of the best and the strongest industries in Japan that I feel happy about.
I just enjoy teaching Japanese to those who are interested in learning it and want to know more about Japanese culture.
I enjoy the human interaction with the students. If the student is really willing to learn the language, it really motivates me to do more and better. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
