I am a retired army intelligence officer with 23 years of military service and 7 years of high school teaching experience. I've taught 7 - 12 grade Social Studies courses to include NM and Texas history, economics, geography and world history. I also have experience teaching English and completed graduate coursework in teaching remedial reading. My military background enhanced my teaching experience as I worked in technical areas requiring the practical use of linear equations and basic geometry.
Overall, my skills involved developing lesson plans that met varied student needs in an Alternative School setting. I created plans to support New Mexico Content Standards and Benchmarks. I further organized personal learning activities to meet each student's needs to include bilingual students. I counseled students in academic and non-academic deficiencies and resolved conflicts. Ultimately I was responsible for the safety and discipline of over 190 students. Finally, I determined student eligibility for advanced courses and provided feedback to pupils and colleagues.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
