Bachelor Fine Arts Pratt Institute (Painting)
Columbia College Chicago (Master's)
For the past five years, I have been teaching art in Riverside, California, as an instructor for the Riverside Art Museum. I have taught classes for home-schooled children from age 6-15, covering a variety of subjects, art media, and techniques. At the same time, I taught drawing classes for adults, and a variety of classes and workshops in Art Journaling, Mixed-Media, Book-binding, and Printmaking. Before California, I lived in Chicago, where I taught art in a K-8 public school for 5 years, as well as a at a local art center where I taught classes and art camps.
Over the past year I've taught private art lessons to two different teens. For 6 months I worked with a sixth grader who wanted to focus on improving his drawing skills and drawing vocabulary, and acrylic painting techniques. Another high school student hired me for 10 private lessons in drawing landscapes with oil pastels. My favorite thing about working with students one-on-one is the ability to focus on the individual-- being able to guide, problem-solve, and give encouragement, while exploring the artist's own vision for their artwork.
I love art, and I love teaching art. I am a painter, a paper-maker, a book-binder, printmaker, and a mixed media artist. I have a solid art education that includes a BFA in painting, and an MFA in Book and Paper Arts. I have more than 20 years of experience of teaching art, in a wide variety of settings, to students from ages 3 -75, and up!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have studied general drawing and figure drawing, formally, as part of my art school education at Pratt Institute. I have worked as a drawing instructor for 3 years, for adults. I have taught beginning drawing as well as expressive drawing courses. I am a professional, working artist, who uses drawing in my work.
My undergraduate degree is a BFA in painting. During my college years I studied with a group of painting professors, who taught painting theory and technique, and helped students develop their own directions in painting. I have tutored students in ink drawing and ink painting, watercolor, and acrylic painting techniques. I also have studied oil painting with various working artists.
