I have been working with children all of my life. The daughter of two teachers myself, I have worked in regular, bilingual, and special education classrooms in public, private, and charter schools, as well as with churches, families and classrooms of Head Start, and even with the juvenile prison system. I have also tutored students in K through 7th grade with great success for the past 5 years. I tutored and taught reading (K-6) and math (K-7) in both English and Spanish. I tutored face-to-face and online, and as a homeschool teacher (K-9). I have also taught ESL to children and adults.
I am a licensed teacher with a BA in Liberal Studies with emphasis in Child and Adolescent Psychology. Currently, I am completing a Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction with dual concentrations in Reading and Early Childhood Education. I am also completing the last course for endorsements in TESOL and Bilingual education.
My strength in tutoring is in the area of Reading. Whether working on the basics, fluency, spelling, or upper level reading comprehension or vocabulary, I have helped students increase their confidence level as well as classroom success. I have had teachers tell me they noticed a measurable difference in student performance.
Tutoring normally takes place in a quiet area at a public library. Lessons are challenging but engaging, and I take learning styles in consideration to maximize the student's learning potential.
I look forward to helping you meet up with success! I have been working with children all of my life. I am licensed in Early Childhood Education, which goes through 3rd grade, and a Master's in Education. I have 5 years tutoring experience with Title 1 companies through 6th grade in reading (English and Spanish). I have also homeschooled K through 11th grade, and my student skipped a grade when entering a charter school.
I am a licensed teacher, and am currently endorsed in both bilingual education and TESOL. I have taught ESL to adults through Literacy Volunteers, as well as children through private tutoring. I also teach English to children in China online.
I have taken graduate courses in elementary reading to include phonics, and teach phonics-based reading with some sight words. I am currently working with a company in writing a phonics curriculum. I have found that when working with many ESL students, a phonics-based approach helps when determining how to read more complex words in English.
I have taken graduate courses in curriculum and instruction with a focus on elementary reading. I have also tutored reading through the 6th grade with good results. Most students have measurable improvement after focused tutoring. A pre-assessment (included in first payment) is done to determine weaknesses and strengths, and then a focused plan is put together for most efficient results, keeping in mind that each student learns at their own pace. As many hands-on, active lessons are used as possible.
I teach Spanish I and Conversational Spanish to high school students. I also write Spanish curriculum for ages 5-10 and teach it online
