About Reed

Bio

I finished my bachelor's degree in Applied Mathematics at the end of summer 2013, and I minored in physics. Whatever math class is giving you trouble, I've probably learned it and used it for several more years in later classes, so I can present mathematical concepts in a variety of different ways. At least one is likely to work for you.

Besides the high school students I have tutored through WyzAnt, I have tutored junior high school students in geometry and worked for Oregon State University as a tutor in Physics 101. I have also worked at OSU as a teaching assistant, where I instructed two sections of the laboratory portion of introductory astronomy, with about 20 students per section. My main duty there was to help students understand the basic geometry and algebra used to solve simple astronomical problems.

Computer

C++,

C++

My education in programming was focused on applications for science and engineering. I have formal training in C/C++, Java and SQL and I'm self-taught in TCP/IP, DNS, Linux command line and shell scripting, and a wide variety of services including Apache, iptables and IMAP/SMTP mail server. I was employed by a Fortune 500 software company from March 2005 to July 2007, where I worked with C#, SQL, XML and macro/scripting tools.
SQL,

SQL

I can introduce students or users of Microsoft Access to ANSI/vanilla SQL, and help with your T-SQL queries in Visual Studio. I learned SQL on the job, for use on the job, and I'm confident in my ability to teach you how to advance your career with structured query language.

Differential Equations,

Differential Equations

I studied differential equations on a semester schedule, which allowed extra focus to be given to applications of linear algebra to systems of differential equations. I also finished differential, integral, and multivariable calculus before that, so I think I can really help you learn DEs thoroughly.

Patient and good at observing needs of student

Reed is professional and responsive to needs of student. He is patient and helpful with difficult math concepts. In addition, he is accessible and flexible with schedule. Will use him again.

Michele, 1 lesson with Reed

Reed is a great teacher!

Reed knows his stuff. I took an online statistics course that was way beyond me, but he was willing to go above and beyond, even helping me at odd hours over e-mail or by text. I could not have done it without him. I am extremely grateful for his help, and grateful to WyzAnt for this service.

Elizabeth, 7 lessons with Reed

Good person to work with when trying to learn something new.

Seemed very logical in the way he explained the fundamentals. Was patient and willing to answer my questions thoughtfully and with some humor. Was open to creating a learning plan that fit me.
