I was valedictorian of my high school, a National Merit Scholar, and picked up an Ivy League degree. I fell into tutoring when a friend of mine suggested that I could pick up some extra cash on a flexible schedule, but it turned out it was my calling. I've been self-employed as a full time tutor for 15 years now. The school whose students I tutor most often turns to me when they need a teacher to fill in temporarily, so I've taught English, Math, and test prep in the classroom, but I'm happiest working with a student one-on-one. I like collaborating more than dictating, and I prefer to respond flexibly to the problem at hand rather than have to assume that a lecture enlightens everyone equally. It's also highly rewarding to feel like I'm making a difference more directly. I've tutored all high school subjects except languages--and even there I can help in Spanish if needed. I've tutored college maths through Calc 2; most college humanities including English, History (including Military History), Sociology, Economics, and Philosophy; college sciences including Astronomy, Biology, Genetics, and Chemistry; and test prep for the ACT, SAT, GRE, GMAT, and the exams teachers take to become qualified. I designed test prep curricula for 2 local high schools and a non-profit and now run my own ACT prep seminar. If you want help in more than one subject, I can work with you in pretty much everything, and I'm as flexible in approach as I can be in topic. We'll find a way that works for you, not some imaginary rigid "only" way. My philosophy is that learning should actually be a pleasant experience.
For obvious reasons, right now I am working only online, and I welcome students from anywhere, not just my travel radius.

I've been tutoring math from Pre-Algebra through Calculus for more than 15 years, working with students between the ages of 10 and 40. I've taught math at high school and junior college. ...I know me some math. More importantly, though, I can explain what I know, which I think we all know is a different thi
