Hi- I'm Peter. I love to teach and I love to make teaching enjoyable and entertaining. Helping people learn should not be dry and mundane. If you require assistance in learning something, in which you are having trouble, the last thing you want is for the material to be dull and boring. In my teaching and tutoring experience, I spend some time getting to know you - your likes and dislikes, your preferences and goals and what interests you. When I get a sense of that, I incorporate these inclinations and preferences into my tutoring so that you may feel comfortable in learning a new subject. When someone feels that the tutor knows them as an individual, you are apt to learn more quickly and have that newly acquired knowledge remain with you, longer.
As far as my educational and academic background goes, I have a Ph.D. in Psychology and Counseling. I have successfully run my own business as a psychotherapist, supervisor, lecturer, test administrator and crisis hotline participant. I have also minored in geography, American and European history, creative writing, philosophy, music and the art of humor. I am a published author and continue to write creatively. I will be having a full stage production of one of my plays in 2015. I am also in negotiations with a literary agent regarding a new novel I am writing.
The bottom line for me is that I enjoy imparting knowledge. But I also learn from the people I teach. I believe that learning is a two way street. I view tutoring as a sensitive area for those being tutored. You are allowing a stranger to know that you need assistance to make your life better and richer. This type of self-disclosure is brave and courageous. I understand this and admire it. I see my responsibility as a tutor as not only mentoring you in the area in which you are having difficulty, but in making the act of learning, pleasurable and exciting so that learning in the future will not be a negative encounter.
I hope this helps you in understanding a bit about me. I sincerely hope to be given the opportunity to help you. Thank you very much. Hi- I'm Peter. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I played baseball in high school on my varsity baseball team. I have also coached little league throughout my adult years. I have read, extensively on the subject and believe I possess a strong knowledge of baseball to assist someone else with any difficulties they may be having. I enjoy the sport immensely and believe that my enthusiasm would transfer over to the student which could make the learning process easier.
I believe I am able to tutor general music because I minored in it as as an undergraduate student. I enjoy music a great deal as evidenced by having played the clarinet, familiarizing myself with the works of major composers and songwriters, and in comprehending basic music theory. I am a good orchestrater and feel that I can bring both the joy and increased understanding of the sometimes, formidable field of general music.
I minored in music as an undergraduate while at Long Beach State, in California. I have actively read much on the subject from the lives of composers to the variety of musical instruments used throughout the centuries. I believe I have a deep understanding of the part music has played in understanding other liberal arts' subjects occurring concurrently, such as the prevailing philosophical, literary, political and historical views throughout history. I believe that my great personal interest in music and its history will be contagious and permit the student to learn easier
I feel that I am qualified to teach poker as I was a professional poker dealer in a local casino. I thoroughly understand the game from its general rules to its more subtle strategies. I further believe that poker sharpens psychological skills as well as reading and deciphering people's intentions, inclinations and styles of behavior. Poker is a game that is certainly entertaining as well as possessing the ability to be educational.
