About Meeshell

I am a native Las Crucian, with a strong understanding of our New Mexican culture. I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts, with an emphasis in technical studio art. I have been very assertive in pursing job opportunities that allowed me room to grow professionally. Because of my ability to learn quickly, I have advanced in every job I have had. Currently, I am working as a Department of Defense Contractor, as a systems architect. In the past eight years I have learned so much regarding the technology world, systems engineering and our military hierarchy. Despite my great achievements here, I have a strong desire to go back to my creative roots, and working directly with the arts and our community. My previous work environments have been within the design world and working with children in a behavioral health or educational setting. What ties all of my work experiences together is the concept of systems analysis. No matter what you are working with, there is a cause and effect for everything. If you can find the right balance, or motivator, or color, it can be the key element for success. I feel that being able to step back to see direct correlation between things is one of my strongest assets. A second strength is my enjoyment for engaging with people, hearing their stories and what drives them. And my third key to success is my ability to be adaptable with the resources I have to work with.

I planned, managed and coordinated the daily operations of a “D” level, fully modified special education program, with an average of 30 students with behavioral or emotional disorders ranging in grade level from kindergarten through 6th grade. I helped develop and implement individualized educational plans for each student. I also maintained receptive communication among the treatment team, milieu staff and the Taos Municipal Schools as to student’s progress.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Ballroom Dancing

I was an assistant instructor at double time dance studio in Taos, New Mexico. I helped teach two-step, pony swing, waltz, rhumba, salsa (east coast and west coast club style), cumbia, bachata, Cha Cha and merengue. I worked with John Henry and his staff for over a year. I am close to finishing my black-belt salsa certification through Edie the Salsa Freak's training courses.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have worked with youth at risk for over 15 years, modeling appropriate social behaviors as well as implementing individualized educational plans in a school and home setting. Many children struggle and fail in school because of a teachers inability to inspire and engage their students. I ran a small private school working with youth at risk, utilizing portfolio assessments. I am a couple of credit hours short of earning my alternative licensure to teach k-12 in The state of New Mexico.
