About Sabrina fr STE

I am currently working on my PhD in Rhetoric and Composition with a focus on literacy and pedagogical practices in the writing classroom. I also hold a Technical & Professional Writing Certification. I have a Master of Arts degree in English and American Literature. I also have a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and American Literature. I have been certified for distance learning on three platforms - Blackboard, Canvas, and Moodle.

I have taken classes in Women's Studies, Religious Studies, Language, Psychology, Statistics, Sociology, Education, and much much more! I am a well-rounded individual with ambition and drive that is second to none!

I have tutored for the past 7 years in a variety of subjects. I work with ages 2 through adult on everything from learning to read, test taking, essay writing, resume writing, scholarship applications, and other business and professional documents

I have taught that the university and college level for more than 7 years. I tutored in the University Writing Center both face to face as well as online with a student body writing for all disciplines. At the writing center I had experience with all levels of writing as well. The students I served included several different cultures with different language and writing needs. I tutored through undergraduate papers, master's theses, as well as Doctoral dissertations.

I want to be a tutor so that students will gain the help that was not readily available for me when I was going through school. I am a personable individual who knows three languages, and understands how difficult it can be to read and write in a language that is not native to the user. As I mentioned, I am actively pursuing my Doctoral degree at UTEP. I am certified as a Technical Writing and Professional Writing expert. I also have submitted grants and worked through editing of curricula in the community. I am well versed with scholarship applications, grant applications, conference proposals, article submissions, etc.

I also can tutor over long distances via the internet using Skype and other methods of sharing information. I actively pursue new knowledge so my methods are not outdated.

I am able to tutor at all hours of the day and night. I only need to know what your needs are. I teach at El Paso Community College, Park University, and Dona Ana Community College. I have the ability to teach online to help with needs. This is a preferred method because the tutoring session can be recorded and then reflected on at a later time if a concept needs to be repeated. I can show you how!

I have worked closely with Latinitas' co-founder for curriculum development and lesson planning. I can send on a curriculum vitae if you would like.

Also, I have several students whom I tutor and have tutored for several years. It is up to the clients how long I will work with them. Some clients need me only once for an hour. That is all right too! Others have stayed with me for several years! So, you do not have to feel pressured to continue on with me after you have mastered the concepts we were set to work on.

I'm an easy going person. I am proficient in MLA and APA citation styles. I have always excelled on the academic level. I commit many hours to studying and helping others study. I also find that I have the patience to really make sure that my students understand what it is that I am teaching them. I go above and beyond the call of duty in all cases. My students' success is my success.

I have worked with several types of children as well--from the bold to the shy. The children I work with sometimes need more support than others. I am helpful in every regard. I have worked with children with Autism, Asperger's, Dyslexia, ADD, and others.

One of my students started with me when he was 7 years old. The school was threatening to hold him back due to behavioral issues and literacy problems. When we started working together, we built an everlasting friendship. He is now on the track to success, is moving onto middle school this year, and did not have to repeat any grades. Not only this, but I am continuously encouraging him! He jokes often that he wants me at his graduation from high school. My response? "I'll be there for every graduation no matter how far I have to travel to get there!"

Another student was having trouble reading and comprehending the information given for her. She has dyslexia so reading has always been hard for her. When we began working together, she had dropped out of high school. After taking the GED test several times herself, she came to me for tutoring for the GED. I went above and beyond, found her a school that she could complete high school through, since having a diploma is what she would have rather had, and now she is graduating college. Through this experience, she has excelled, received several scholarships, and knows she can rely upon me if she needs any help--no matter how many years pass between sessions.

Another student that comes to mind wants to be a chef. She needed help applying to an internship program. I helped her apply to the internship. Not only was she chosen for the internship, but she received work thereafter. And her food? It tastes great!

One student came to me with the desire to go into dental hygiene. She asked for help studying for the exam to get in. We worked on reading and writing. She received the top grade for the exam after working with me for only one week and was accepted into the program! Now, a couple of weeks ago (May 2016) she graduated from the program with honors! I am so proud of her.

As you can see, there are many success stories that I can share. I have so many more, but do not want to bore you with the length of this response. Will you be my next success story? Let's work together to make dreams come true!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I have homeschooled my children for 3 grades. I use curriculum that I have designed as well as curriculum I have obtained from the K12 program. I have done the independent study format as well as the public school online format. I have gone so far as to homeschool other children whose parents do not have time to do so.

Microsoft Outlook

This is the only type of email system that is used at work. I work 5 jobs. I know how to sync up Outlook, set up calendars, and work through issues with the email system.

Microsoft Windows

I have been using Microsoft Windows since 3.1. I am currently using Microsoft Windows 10. I have used everything in between. I used to build computers so understand settings and functions of the Windows platform.

I have been working through phonics with a variety of different types of learners. Sometimes I use the "Lips" technique while other times I use soundboards and multimodal instruction. I tutor students who have difficulty picking up on phonemes. Some of these students have dyslexia. Others are in collaboration with speech language pathologists partnered with me in order to produce understanding of phonemes and phonics. I have taught several students how to read and make sense of certain sounds. I also have a few different systems that make phonics more visual for students who have a little bit more trouble than others.

I took several classes in religious studies during my undergraduate degree. I took World Religions, Islam, From Faith to Reason, Christianity, Judaism, and others. I understand how to speak on the subject matter without offending. I have several resources for anyone to learn or talk through concepts.

Study Skills

I have helped with time management for students, test anxiety, ideas on how to manage test taking, organization of subject matter, and understanding ways to read between the lines. I have offered comprehensive examples on best practices for all subjects. I currently hold a 3.68 GPA with proven success. I have tutored several students through study skills and have taught university classes specifically on how to gain study skills for proper retention of information.

I am qualified to tutor in this subject because my degrees center on writing in college. I am a composition major currently working toward a PhD in Rhetoric & Composition. I also possess Technical, Professional, and Grant Writing Certifications. At the same time, I have helped with a variety of writing subject matter across curricula in all levels of education.
