My passion and desire in life is to make art that causes people to see the world in a different light, and I carry that into my teaching style. No one person learns exactly the same way. I learn best by studying by myself in a quiet room, others learn best by practicing while others learn by hearing concepts being explained to them. As a tutor my first priority is to find they most efficient way my student grasps information so I may style my teachings to better suit them. I also believe a person cannot grow if they are not challenged and thus assign homework assignments based off what I feel is a worthy challenge based on the individual skill level of each student.
As a tutor my greatest joy is seeing a student grow in their own ideas and understandings. I have had teachers who have blatantly told me I was wrong because my ideas were different. I have had teachers who have said I could not be great because there were others greater than I. I have always abhorred such philosophies. As a tutor I have two main jobs, first to teach students the base understandings of my subjects, and secondly to help them take that base knowledge and apply in the ways only my students can imagine.
Physics was my favorite subject while I was studying Mechanical Engineering, and while i have decided a career in Engineering is not for me Physics is something that will stay with me forever. Physics taught me have to distort perception by tricking the eye through lenses. Physics taught me an better understanding of how the forces in my own body works, and most of all physics showed me there is a way to break reality and as an artist that is one of the most essential skills i have ever learned.
I have taught in several workshops teaching theater and art, I have worked in several theater productions where I have worked both on stage as an actor and behind the scenes as a director, stage manager, and set designer. Some of my favorite shows I have had the pleasure to be a part of were, Your a Good Man Charlie Brown, A Chemical Imbalance: The Curious Case of Dr. Jekyll, and Agnes of God. As an artist my specialty is graphic and charcoal mediums, i have spent my entire life practicing and refining my trade. I've created comics, and rendered 3d views of theater set as part of my profession I am building towards, However I have and am still continuing to practice all mediums as art does not not have one superior medium. I have worked with computer graphic programs ranging from photoshop to solid works, I have worked with river clay I acquired myself, and I have worked with others to help create their vision to showcase to others.
I do not reject new ideas, as some of my previous scholars have tried to do to me. I understand there is a base understanding that is needed but I will help you achieve that base knowledge and then challenge you to exceed far beyond that. My time is yours, use it as much as you desire. My passion and desire in life is to make art that causes people to see the world in a different light, and I carry that into my teaching style. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been a self taught artist for majority of my life, however i have taken classes to better myself in knowledge of different mediums and styles. I have a lot of experience teaching other students outside classes as they admired my talent in this field. My teaching method is unique in the art world, for I will work on my own piece similar to that of my student while observing them so I can comment on their process and explain concepts to them on my own piece when they have questions or concerns.
