About Annie

I graduated May 2011 from Florida Institute of Technology with a BS in Marine Biology, with concentrations in Chemistry and Psychology. I now work in the Biology Department at NMSU. I absolutely love Biology, especially Ecology, and thoroughly enjoy teaching others what I have learned. I worked as a swim coach for 7 years and have worked with every age group of kids, so I am very familiar with how to talk to younger children and keep them engaged, as well as how to interest older kids. If your child ever has a question that I cannot answer, I am not afraid to say so and look it up so that I can better explain it later; or even better, look the question up with them to teach fact-finding skills.

Please let me know if you think I can help your kid(s) out!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I have taken multiple anatomy classes throughout High School and College, and it is one of the subjects I enjoy most.

My Bachelor's degree is in Marine Biology, so needless to say, I have taken many courses in General Biology and in specific subject matter.

The classes I enjoyed most during college were in Ecology. I was taught by some of the leading experts in Paleoecology and Population Biology, and those are the concepts I most enjoy discussing!

I have taken multiple Microbiology courses, in High School and college. All of the courses included a laboratory section, and they were general courses. During the laboratory section, I was responsible for figuring out what unknown bacteria I was given (I was responsible for two). I also completed a research project on Guillain-Barre Syndrome due to bacterial infection.

I took all of my electives during college in Psychology, and would have a minor in it but there were scheduling conflicts. Coursework included general psychology, group behavior, and human sexuality to name a few; it was a fairly diverse course load.

I have coached swimming for seven years in addition to swimming competitively for fourteen years. I was on the Varsity swim team of my High School for six years (also on team during Middle School) and was captain for my junior and senior years.

I have played recreational tennis for seventeen years and played Varsity Tennis for two years in High School (captain my senior year) in addition to two years of Varsity Tennis in College.

I have taken Invertebrate Zoology and Comparative Vertebrate Anatomy with lab sections in each, and excelled in both courses. I am especially good at taxonomy and physiology of the different Phyla.
