Bio

I enjoy tutoring both in an online setting and face-to-face. I have over 10 years of teaching experience, most recently at local community college where I taught solar energy applications as well as managing the renewable energy degree program there. While with the college I created and taught courses that used SketchUp for solar design applications, where I taught students to create working drawings and 3D models of solar systems.

While with the college I created and taught courses that used SketchUp for solar design applications, where I taught students to create working drawings and 3D models of solar systems.

I have a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with a specialization in renewable energy from New Mexico State University where I graduated with honors.

I started tutoring while in high school and have been helping others learn ever since. In addition to teaching, I have extensive engineering, design, construction and manufacturing experience having worked in the aerospace, automotive, building construction and solar industries. My specialties are 3D modeling using SketchUp, analysis using Excel, and using computers.

My broad and varied experience comes in handy when explaining things. I enjoy making things understandable and practical! I am easy to reach and respond quickly. Please contact me with any questions you may have or to schedule a lesson.

Sketchup,

Sketchup

I have extensive experience teaching SketchUp in the classroom, online, and in one-on-one online settings. I have been teaching others how to use SketchUp for over 8 years. I started teaching how to use SketchUp at a local community college where it was part of the solar training curriculum. I developed two 3-credit hour 15 week long courses from scratch and taught them, as well, in a traditional face-to-face classroom setting. 3 years ago I developed an online course complete with videos and written materials worth 6 continuing education units where SketchUp is used to model a photovoltaic system on a house. I am also a 3D Warehouse Certified Developer, which is an endorsement that was awarded by Trimble, the company that owns SketchUp. Getting certified involved an approval process conducted by Trimble and it involved submitting some SketchUp models that I created and taking a rigorous test. I have taught many students in a one-on-one online setting how to use SketchUp. Often I have used a Skype for this purpose where I can share my computer screen and show step by step how to use SketchUp. Currently, I am self-employed doing design and consulting work using SketchUp through my own company, Renewable Engineering. I use SketchUp for designing photovoltaic solar systems, and for various building and engineering projects including 3D printing.

Extremely helpful

I am taking Sketchup classes with Tom. He is a pleasant tutor, patient, and fun to learn from. The lesson is interactive, and he is well prepared with any question I have. I also find it great that we talk about the plan for the next lesson ahead of time. Hala

Sketchup Expert

I came in with a project and wanted to learn specific skills. Tom walked me through these skills and watched me implement my newly acquired knowledge. He knew everything I asked, was patient and gave me extra tips on how to use the software. Got everything i wanted out of the session :)
