Education is more than just learning facts; it is learning how to learn, solve problems and understand the interconnectedness of our world. My varied background of the sciences, literacy and the arts gives me a unique skill set to help your student understand, not just know. Eighteen years' experience as a public school teacher, over 15 years as a tutor, sixteen years as a piano and voice teacher, as well as experience in running businesses, managing legal document production, computer networking and a deep love of hand craft allow me to draw from wide experience to put facts in context and help your student see connections. Understanding how facts fit together creates a framework that allows your student to apply his/her knowledge to their life and career. Understanding fires motivation and curiosity, making students life-long learners.

I believe it is important to teach the entire student, ensuring that possible deficits in ancillary subjects such as reading, do not keep students from success in other areas. To this end, students who need help with foundational skills such as reading or arithmetic will also receive tutoring in those areas, with approval of the parent or guardian. I firmly believe that all students can be successful, but that each of us learns and develops at a pace that is unique to the individual. It is my purpose to provide support so that your student can progress and achieve to the best of their ability.

Students and teachers must work well together in order to achieve at the highest level. Therefore, I offer a complimentary first "get to know each other" consultation session so that you and your student can have a taste of how we will work together.

I look forward to meeting with you!

Testimonial for Patricia H.

Transition to 9th grade from middle school is typically not an easy time for a student. Our son had additional challenges with moving from project based curriculum to a more standard test based one. Finally, our son is a little more stubborn that most and we waited too long to get him assistance (it kept looking like he was going to pull it together on his own). Patricia was able to navigate successfully through all of these factors and provided thorough instructive assistance and good study habit advice for most of the final semester. The effort on her part was instrumental in helping our son get his grades up (from failing many classes to actually getting decent test grades). We wish we had found Patricia sooner, but even with the late start, her help has had a tremendous positive impact. Her strongest skills would be her gentle but firm patience and in keeping her student focused.

Knowledgeable and Patient Tutor

Patricia helped my daughter prep for the SSAT with very little time until the test. She was wonderful and very flexible with our crazy time schedule. She is patient, friendly, easy to work with, and with the short amount of time we had to work with her, she taught my daughter test taking strategies and tips for each section of the test. If we had more time, I am certain she would have been wonderful teaching my daughter some of the topics she needed help with. I highly recommend Patricia.

Great teacher! My son felt totally at ease. Patient and knowledgeable

Patient, and knowledgeable,. Patricia went the extra mile and provided my son with extra resources to get more practice exercises for his chemistry homework. My son wasn't sure if online tutoring would work for him, but, now, he is looking forward to his next tutoring session with Patricia.
