I have been a certified teacher since the fall of 2000. I have a variety of teaching fields, ranging from elementary to SPED. I currently possess experience in teaching the following grades: 2nd-12th grade. I also possess experience in working with struggling, reluctant learners.
For the last three years, I have been teaching in an alternative school setting with students who are 3-4 grade levels behind. I focus on basic reading, writing, and math skills.
I have a full understanding that Common Core has become a nationwide curriculum. I understand the value of aligning curriculum and making learning meaningful to the learner. I have extensive knowledge of the various learning styles and how to make use of those so learning becomes meaningful. My goal is to help students achieve the necessary skills to function within their regular classroom setting with confidence. I have been a certified teacher since the fall of 2000. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I currently teach in an alternative setting where the majority of my students are labeled as special education for either ADHD diagnosis or for other forms of mental disorders, such as emotionally disturbed. I am certified in SPED, grades k-12. I student taught and professionally taught in a Functional Living unit for 3 years.
I am currently licensed in New Mexico, where Common Core is the curriculum that we follow. I have full understanding of curriculum alignment and of the standards. I utilize these standards when working with our online instructional program through Edgenuity for our alternative students.
I was originally certified in 1st-6th in Texas. We moved to New Mexico. I transferred my license to New Mexico, still certified 1st-6th in regular education and K-12 special education. I currently have a 3rd grader in my alternative school program. I have 12 years of experience in teaching elementary students, primarily in Texas.
I am certified to teach 1st-6th in regular education and K-12 special education. I taught in the lower elementary grades for 12 years, utilizing the Saxon Phonics program for all readers, along with SPED students in a resource setting. I have full knowledge of the components of phonics.
I am certified to teach special education students, grades K-12. My student teaching was primarily performed in a functional living unit, along with a resource setting. I currently teach struggling students in an alternative setting for elementary and middle school students. I understand differentiation of instruction, along with the various learning styles for all students.
I work in an alternative setting with elementary and middle school students, most of which are several grade levels behind. Through our online learning program, I help students learn to take notes, decipher important information to take from lectures, and how to organize their information to help them with the assessments. I also have extensive experience with study skills through my own Master's program in Mental Health counseling, from which I graduated with a 4.0 GPA.
