I started out teaching at the high school level but moved on to teaching 6th grade. I enjoy teaching all subjects and linking subjects together. For example, when doing an English writing unit I worked with the art and computer teachers; the art teacher helped the students to illustrate a story they were writing and the computer teacher helped them prepare and publish a book.
I have been a substitute teacher at all levels and all subjects, taught 6th grade in Puerto Rico, first at a Christian k-12 school and then at an international k-12 school.
Although I am no longer in a classroom, I miss teaching. It is so rewarding to help students improve grades and self confidence. All the students I have tutored have improved grades and test scores.
I have extensive college course work in geology, biology, botany, genetics, anthropology, psychology. I love science - it helps me understand the world around me. My son says that growing up with me and traveling to places all over the country visiting museums was like growing up on a field trip!
I never knew how to study until my second year of college so I know how important study skills are to be successful, not only in school, but at work. I always taught study skills along with subject matter to my 6th graders. When those students went on to 7th grade their new teachers always commented on how prepared they were and that they could pick out my students the first day of class. I have been successful teaching study skills to elementary and high school students.
I am Microsoft Office Certified and taught computers and job skills at Albuquerque Job Corps Center for two years.
Although I am no longer in a classroom I miss teaching. It is so rewarding to help students improve grades and self confidence. I have ADD and Dyslexia so know how frustrating it can be for students who are struggling in school. I would love to help you! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a minor in Anthropology, all the courses required for a BA except for a language. I did my student teaching in Anthropology at a high school.
I am a former 6th grade teacher. I am no longer certified as I retired from full time teaching. I have tutored and substituted at all grade levels but particularly at the elementary level. I have worked in Montana, Arizona, Texas and in Puerto Rico.
I am Microsoft Office Certified, and taught computer (Microsoft, Microsoft Office) at Albuquerque Job Corps.
I have taught study skills to my 6th grade students and have tutored students from elementary through high school. All these students raised their grades. When I was an elementary school counselor on the Navajo reservation teachers frequently sent disruptive or under achieving students to me for help with school work.
