Bio

This past school year I had the pleasure (and challenge) of engaging 130+ learner types, teaching high school chemistry and physics. I accommodated students with many different learning styles (combination of visual, auditory, hands-on, logical, etc.), and I enjoyed finding activities to keep them interested in learning.

I accommodated students with many different learning styles (combination of visual, auditory, hands-on, logical, etc.), and I enjoyed finding activities to keep them interested in learning.

For graduate school (2018-2019 school year), I was part of the Albuquerque Teacher Residency Program (ATRP), which combined a full year of student teaching with a rigorous Secondary Education Master's program. I credit many of my successes this past school year to this teacher preparation program.

As for my STEM background, aside from completing all the necessary coursework for a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry (UNM, 2018), I also worked in a nanomaterials lab for four years applying this knowledge. Since math and science walk hand-in hand, and I was awarded an endorsement to teach mathematics based on my college courses (Engineering Calculus (I, II, III), Vector Analysis, Ordinary Differential Equations, and Linear Algebra).

I also love teaching chess! And I have experience coaching many different ages. I am a USCF National Expert (active rating of 2000 as of May 2020), and I write a serial chess column for the Albuquerque Journal (2017-present), the largest newspaper in the state of New Mexico. I have had the pleasure of contributing to the national magazines "Chess Life" and "StrateGems," and I wrote two puzzle books which are popular locally, Chess Puzzle Learning Levels (Vol. I & II).
