University of New Mexico (Special education)
Hello, I have been teaching for 5 years now. My husband was in the Army so I was fortunate enough to teach in a few states and learn many teaching strategies. My philosophy is all students can learn and it's my job to find out how.
I have a Bachelors in Special Education and Elementary Education. I have mostly taught inclusion classrooms and severe small group. I teach using steps, I begin with concrete projects and move to the abstract concepts. Common core is difficult and I have found that relating the content to students life's and taking these steps allows students to grasp the concepts better.
My minor is in social studies but I was really drawn to elementary math and love teaching it. I hated it in school but now I can't get enough. I would love to help get the students caught up with this new and challenging curriculum.
I'm trained in recovery programs and strategies for reading. Quick writes and proofreading for writing. Since I taught special Ed I'm able to reach all levels of reading and writing.
I'm able to adapt the content in order to bring it to the student's level. I'm up to date on all current practice and am able to make the content relevant to the student. I've worked with all levels of students and have successfully brought them to grade level or above.
I've worked in inclusion and a small group classroom. The disabilities I've worked with are Autism, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, vision impairment, learning disabilities and speech impairment.
Tutoring is meant to help close the gaps left from school, I can help close these gaps in a more flexible and encouraging environment. Hello, I have been teaching for 5 years now. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
