About Kristi

I completed a master's degree in long-form journalism from New York University. My teaching career began in 2002, when I gave piano lessons to the kids in my neighborhood. Since then, I have taught art at a summer camp, prepared immigrants for the Citizenship Test in Minneapolis, volunteered as an English teacher with the Peace Corps in Ukraine, and worked as an ESL and TOEFL-Writing instructor.

Learning is a joyful process! I enjoy helping my students develop and deepen their skills.

By day, I am an editor, a job which requires proofreading, writing, revising, and many other tasks related to the English language.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Public Speaking

I was on the speech team from grades 7-12 and won the semi-qualifying round to qualify for the Minnesota state tournament during my 10th grade year for extemporaneous reading. In college, I acted as a judge for the Minneapolis regional competitions. I have also been a teacher since 2002, which requires a fair amount of public speaking-- in addition, I work as an editor for a nationally recognized magazine, which also requires me to speak publicly.
