I have been an educator for 20 years working with students from pre-school to adults. I have taught a combination 4-6 elementary classroom, high school alternative education, and adult ESL classes. I have also tutored students ranging from first grade to high school in all subjects. My strengths are patience, encouragement, sense of humor, and belief in the capabilities of all my students. I always have high expectations for my students and this encourages them to always try their best.
I really enjoy tutoring as it allows the student to receive direct instruction and facilitates understanding. I find this very rewarding as I can see the "light" go on when a student finally grasps the concept(s) they may have been struggling with. I also enjoy creating a relationship with my students which then leads to a more relaxed and productive tutoring session.
I have always been interested in the writing process and grammar is such an important component. I had extensive grammar training in my own education and this has stayed with me. I currently assist high school students in writing essays, and grammar is an area that I am very comfortable in.
I have been an elementary classroom teacher for five years. During that time, I worked with a 4-6 combination classroom which allowed me to develop skills in all the subjects for these three grade levels. I have also tutored students in all levels of elementary education. I am always able to develop a great rapport with my students in this age group.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am a certified elementary education teacher in both California and New Mexico. I have tutored for five years and also taught elementary education for five years. Altogether, I have ten years of elementary experience.
I have been teaching GED prep for the past two years. I am very familiar with the four different tests as well as the writing components of the RLA and social studies exams. My experience is with a large group of students so I am familiar with various learning styles and the best methods to work with these students.
I have taught reading as part of elementary and high school curriculum. I also have a very good understanding of the skills needed to be an effective reader: main ideas, grammar, relationship of ideas, author purpose, as examples. I can assist students in developing these skills through patient, effective teaching strategies.
I have had experience with teaching English as an elementary and high school teacher. I have also tutored this subject to students. My own training in grammar, spelling, and writing make me qualified to teach this subject.
