My name is Amanda (26 years old) and I graduated from Mills College with honors in Biology/Molecular Cell Biology and Biochemistry. Currently, I am a third year medical student on a leave of absence.

I have loads of experience in tutoring and teaching. In college, I regularly tutored high school students through Upward Bound and was requested by professors to peer tutor for Calculus I, Calculus II, Biology I, Biology II, Human Physiology, Genetics, Molecular Cell Biology, English, and Writing. Additionally, I was selected by faculty to serve as a TA in Biology and Human Physiology for post-baccalaureate premed students.

Having an interest in becoming a pediatrician, I also have lots of experience working with young people! In high school, I co-instructed Irish dance classes alongside my dance teacher to kids ages 4 - 16. In college, I volunteered as a camp counselor for kids with muscular dystrophy (was responsible for the 24-hour care for a 7 year old girl diagnosed with MD) and regularly volunteered at Oakland's Children's Hospital. I also interacted with kids of all ages as a research assistant working on a clinical project for a local pediatrician.

When it comes to teaching, I explain concepts from many different angles and use a variety of approaches (visual, kinematic, etc) to help tutees understand a given subject matter. I also try to guide my tutees to the right answer (rather than do it for them) and then let them explain the process back to me.

Over the years, I have served as a peer tutor (in college), a private tutor (for a high school students), and a TA for both undergraduate and Postbac students.

Perfect for TEAS help!!

My son was extremely hesitant to get tutored on Zoom. He was insisting on face to face. But, as his TEAS testing date was rapidly approaching and he wasn't finding anyone to meet face to face locally, he conceded to a Zoom tutor. Amanda was exactly what he needed!! She was very responsive and offered the availability he needed, even on short notice. He took the TEAS for the first time 3 months ago and was taking it a second time before applying to the BSN program at his University. A competitive score at his school is considered 72+ overall. On his first attempt, he got 79.3 overall, but was borderline competitive in Reading (80+ needed) & Science (62+ needed). Well, he focused on those sections with Amanda and had intense tutoring with her this past week. He met with Amanda for about 6 hours total. They met the Friday, Tuesday and Wednesday before taking the test for the second time on Thursday. He improved his overall score from 79.3 to 85.3 (+6). His Reading went from 78.7 to 89.4 (+10.7) and his Science went from 61.7 to 76.6 (+14.9). My son loved her and we were both very pleased with the outcome and value for the money. Highly recommend and don't be afraid of Zoom! She makes it work!!

Truly an excellent tutor!

Amanda has been so wonderful in helping me prepare for my TEAS exam! She knows the material and can explain it in a way that is easy to understand! She has been very accommodating with my busy schedule and is always willing to help. I am so appreciative of her help in preparing me for my exam and I feel confident that I’m learning the materials she explains to me. I completely recommend her!!

Knowledgeable and helpful tutor

We worked on my personal statement and Amanda had great suggestions and edits that helped improve my draft massively. She offered me tips on how to make my draft more concise and ensuring the prompt was properly addressed.

Prepared, patient and knowledgeable tutor

Amanda came prepared for the lesson. She was able to keep my son engaged and actually got him interested about the subject, an important factor of tutoring. She is honest and not shy on telling how it is. I definitely recommend her to be your tutor.
