I believe that a student needs to be self confident. It is vitally important that each child believes that he/she is capable of learning and enjoys the process. It is essential for me as a teacher to determine the most successful way in which a student learns. When that determination is made, I tailor each lesson based on the child's needs to insure successful results.
I have an office that is set up as a small classroom in my home. It is a peaceful environment that is conducive to learning. If parents wish, they are invited to wait in my home during the sessions.
Becoming a teacher was my goal since I was in the second grade. It has been and will continue to be a privilege for which I am most grateful.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

As an experienced elementary education teacher, I have taught Study Skills to numerous students. I have used my techniques in the classroom and as a private tutor.
Students often need to be taught how to use time wisely, take notes and refer to them in addition to giving self quizzes, for example. Students also greatly benefit from learning the method or methods that best help them learn. Some students may be visual learners while others auditory or "hands on". Many need a combination of all three. I have assisted in determining what works best for students.
There are numerous ways to help students learn Study Skills. Another example is to teach students to break large tasks into small ones. That will avoid becoming overwhelmed. A student needs to be encouraged to ask for help when necessary.
